"Fly" is from Warsaw and "Imaginations from the Other Side" is from Hamburg. Need to listen to all three CDs again to find out more.

I hope they also took The Bard's Song from the Warsaw concert. :D Although you wouldn't see how the audience is sitting down on a cd...
You charge each other for the time and breath it takes to say 'good morning',
But the truth is slowly dawning -- things are getting out of hand,
We all pursue our shattered dreams along the roads to our own ruin --
Watch our empires sink and wash away like castles made of sand.
And so cast off the lies that are your lives and find the truth within.

Great to see the forum renewed, but even better to see Jason and Joost to post again!

Very happy for the news of this triple CD and very curious to listen to it.
BG is one of the very few bands that I can still enjoy from my 16s, and their concert in Milan in 2015 was so good. It would be cool to have one song from it. Crowd was especially on fire, with chants for every single band member already after The Ninth Wave! :)

Can't wait!
"Well, I was about to announce the next song, but I think we'll have to skip it...
Yeah, because we have a pretty sad song here, and you all seem so happy to me...!"

The lack of Curse of Feanor is really disappointing. As is the general lack of songs they haven't had on a live album before. I love Blind Guardian, but why are they so obsessed with releasing the same songs over and over?

Any chance you could talk the band into releasing less-played songs that aren't on the album online as part of a media campaign for the live album?

I'm not sure if there are any songs that aren't included on the album that they played in 2015. I asked about "Curse of Faenor" but wasn't that only played in 2016? I forget...

So, tell me, what songs would be on a new live album that haven't been on previous live albums or DVDs? Keep in mind that some songs have never been played live at all, so those don't count.

I'd say that we're a very atypical crowd since we own everything and enjoy hearing "different" songs than the "hits". Most normal fans probably want to hear all the classics again...

I would have liked Skalds and Shadows, Blood Tears, Guardian of the Blind, Miracle Machine and Otherland :D
I understand that some people want to hear certain classics, but it wouldn't even make sense to make the same live album over and over again

True, they did play "Miracle Machine" a bunch of times, didn't they? Same with "Otherland". Hansi told me that they need at least 10 recordings of a song before one usable one comes out. :-P I don't think they played "Skalds and Shadows" or "Guardian of the Blind" on the 2015 tour.

You're welcome regarding the forum. I finally got off my butt and did something about it. Now something just needs to be done about the homepage itself.

I'm fairly sure they did Miracle Machine in every single date in 2015, definitely did Skalds and Shadows at least in Ljubljana in 2015, and I kinda remember seeing some setlist with Guardian of the Blind on (but unfortunately even if I saw them a lot of times during this tour I never caught that song :( )

EDIT: yep, here they are, they played it a few times

I got your point in this and it seems they are close to their regular setlist they played on this tour, so i can agree if two CDs represent the tour, but the third could have been the one with the gems (seldom played once). That's what i have hoped for...

I'll add Holy Grail to that list. It was 2016, so I don't know if they recorded it, but it seems a shame to do a tour for their new album, and then only include 3 of the 5 songs they played off it.

EDIT: I just looked at their average setlist for 2015 on setlist.fm, and everything on that 18 song list is on the album, except Miracle Machine, plus ATTWS, APAFS, ATSE, Bright Eyes, LITTH. So definitely I'd say they're trying to represent the average setlist rather than songs they haven't released before. I just wish they'd have more confidence in their newer material when designing setlists. :(

Absolutely!
I didn't mention it just because it wasn't 2015, but lifting that limitation I'd add even more songs.
I understand the perfectionism and the desire to represent the average setlist, but I would much rather have an album more varied and with more songs that never appeared in the previous lives.
Especially because in this tour they played again or for the first time some long forgotten gems which would be amazing to hear on a live album

In general I would prefer more new songs fixed in the setlist. When on tour promoting a new album I think it is very much justified to play at least half of those songs each concert. Having such a large catalog of classics makes it even more varied as they then won't be played every single time, but can be exchanged for other classics making every concert more unique. Then maybe for the 2nd leg of a tour it is possible to do a more classics oriented tour, like they did this time with IFTOS. Just my two cents on this...

How about a bonus CD, especially for the real fans, with 10 different versions of Valhalla on it?

Too mainstream, I'd rather have a bonus cd with just the crowd singing "Valhalla, deliverance...." at the end of those 10 different times they played it

It may also just be that they were never satisfied with specific performances of songs that were omitted. This is much more likely than the band just wishing to deprive the fanbase of new material, in my opinion.

About the actual album, interesting for sure, pity that The Holy Grail, Miracle Machine and The Curse of Feanor couldn't make i.t

Mi and Marcus needed their mics cranked up for this, especially due to the lack of any audio coming from the crowd - at least from my first listen without headphones. Marcus and Mi actually make this song live, with their backing.

Agree with Ryu, the back vocals could be amplified.

The teleporting band members are still as distracting as in the previous video. But here we also see that they can turn night into day :)
Imho it would have been better to choose one venue for each song, with possible mixes whenever was necessary and the replacement was not jarring. The Halloween performance could have been used as bonus videos.

I'm actually not at all bothered by the video... I don't mind if it is snapshots from many concerts, It is not like it is going to be a live DVD, it is an impression from their tour to support the live album.

I do agree on the audio... not only on the live album, but live in general, the backing vox need to be upped more.

and not only, they have already finished two songs for the next regular studio album, a third to come.
I hope they can polish that "Winter's Coming" song that didn't make it to Beyond The Red Mirror so that it becomes part of the next album. I've heard it's fast and heavy and old school, and was written at least partially by Marcus.

I wouldn't be surprised if it ended up becoming "Doom", though.

I tried to ask Marcus about this during one of his "ask me anything" posts on Instagram, but he avoided the question. :P

I wouldn't be surprised if it ended up becoming "Doom", though.
Oh, that's not fun. Sorry to hear that. :?

As far as I know it's not "Doom" because "Doom" is one of those old Nightfall leftovers that they finished for the last album. "Winter's Coming", on the other hand, was a brand new song.

I'd prefer this to be the case. Most of the songs Marcus has written are some of my favorites, so any new material with that lean to it would be nice.

I agree. I also like variety in songwriting - the more people involved, the more interesting it gets.

Ask them about the orchestral project, pleaseee 😀
I should be able to publish the interview next week (Nuclear Blast asked us to publish it not earlier than the last week of June), there are some interesting info on the orchestral album
As soon as it'll be online I'll post the link here ;)

You could always give us a tidbit here as a sneak preview. We won't tell.

New short interview:
Jimmy Kay from Canada's The Metal Voice spoke Blind Guardian's Front man Hansi Kürsch while he was promoting their new 3cd 4LPS Live Beyond The Spheres album which will be out on July 7 2017 on Nuclear Blast

When asked about an update on the progress of Blind Guardians yet to be released Orchestral Album
"The Orchestral album is in the making for 20 years and we are getting closed to an end. I sang two songs already. I am suppose to be done at the end of December 2017 which means all the music will be done at that time. So basically, we will be ready to go for mixing the album and we are intending on release the whole thing in the beginning of 2019 I would say."

When asked about the concept of the Orchestral album
"Basically I am working with a German ensemble. What I can tell you about the concept is to a certain extent it is connected to the Czech Republic, so it will play an essential role I the story telling as well. It's going to be a fictional story connected to history too. I'm anxious to see where we end up. The first two songs I sang were quite interesting. There will be a lot of science there will be a lot of history there will be a little bit of everything and if things are rolling like they do at the moment then it will be a very pleasant experience. I can guarantee that you have not heard anything like that before."

When asked if there will be a new traditional Blind Guardian Studio album
"That will be released most probably in 2020 and believe it or not. We have finished two songs. One is called 'American Goth' and the other one is called 'Architect of doom' "

When asked if there will be a Blind Guardian Festival and who would he like to participate in it
"I would love to do it with Iced Earth and would like to connect it to the orchestral album."

Great News, as always ;-)

The titles of the two songs for the next studio album seem to be very dark. Maybe there will be a touch of "Follow the Blind" Album with it.
(I would appreciate it, really one of my altime favorites)

Any other guess?

Thanks man. That was really informational. And I really love the idea of those songs as bonus for singles. That would be so much better than another Bards song (in the forest).

Great work!

Sounds good! I can still hope to hear live versions of Holy Grail, Curse of Feanor, and Miracle Machine some day! And they've actually recorded most of the music for the OP, so them saying it'll come out 2018/2019 is more than just air.

Does this mean that the collaboration with Markus Heitz is off? Have I missed this in one of the older news?

Not that I've heard. I think he just means that the story concept they've worked on with Heitz is connected to the Czech Republic.
