BTW, it's amazing how this band is incapable of composing something as effective as Mordred's Song. IFTOS as a whole had some of their most inspired songwriting and that's the reason why it clicked with so many people back in the day, that record just flows.
IFTOS the title track is 7:12.

What are you talking about...To me Sacred Worlds was the first song I liked from At ThE Edge Of Time and after 1 and a half year later, I started listening to the other ones... I just needed some time for all of this complex stuff, which nowadays I consider as the best songs in my set list ever... But going back to Sacred Worlds, I have to say that this song have one of the most touchable and inspired vocals ever :) And I do really prefer a long song for the beginning, it's something that gives a great opening to the album ;)

I love the long songs, no matter where they are on the CD...
Sacred Worlds is a great opener!

The longer I look at the cover, the more I see this guy entering the portal. Probably just a coincidence, but the features really are similiar. Also the theme fits: him entering the portal to become a god. Or, IDK, maybe I'm just too big of a geek and try to combine two of my favourite things in the world together :)

For example:
Song 9 - TOTG
Encrypted Time - Ashes Of Eternety
Wintet's coming - Sacred Mind
Holy Grail - Holy Grail

Outcast - Ninth Wave - It's like a roller caster through the last three decades of heavy metal/Many twists music wise...,a soft intro(epic and sad)/big choirs at the beginning...
So, to me they're really close to each other, and I don't think that they just have just discovered an almost 10 minute song, if it's not the "Outcast" one... :?
You may be right... but I see it this way:
Song 9 - Twilight Of The Gods
Winter's Coming - Ashes Of Eternity
The Holy Grail has pretty much retained its name
Outcast - Sacred Mind (their descriptions sound very similar I think, the very first time I read about "Outcast" I imagined something like "Sacred Mind", even the length is the same. I suppose it's the most progressive song among the faster ones, moving from the mellow epic intro to many speedy eruptions later in the song which was attested to by the journalist)
As for "Encrypted Time", it either became "Doom" or was sort of "integrated" into "The Ninth Wave" and was extended into something much more sophisticated than a more or less simple speedy song.
That's just my view :) . I hope the liner notes will make it clear how each track was called during the production.

What are you talking about?? Imaginations From the Other Side is just 2 minutes shorter than Sacred Worlds, and Sacred Worlds is so good that those 9 minutes feel like 5 minutes to me...

I think the orchestral version of Sacred Worlds is too long as well, draws out the original version a bit.

I know what you mean... but I like both versions and I listen to them according to my mood... I think I like the orchestral version more because I love symphonic arrangements on metal and power metal. I hope the new album has lots of arrangements like this...

A random thought. I have an idea for a Christmas present from the band for this forum. What if ten forum users were chosen (for example, the oldest ones, or the most active, or just at random, whatever...) and each of those users could choose one song from "Beyond The Red Mirror" and listen to it once? And everyone would select different songs (any except "Twilight Of The Gods" since everybody will hear it pretty soon anyway) and then share their impressions and opinions with the rest of the forum. It wouldn't spoil much but will be a nice little gift from the band, I guess.

You can check them by clicking the "Members" link, on the top right of every page of the forum, near "Faq", "Search" and "User Control Panel". As you can see, they never posted that much in this version of the forum (In fact, I believe some of Marcus' posts were deleted when the admins made a bit of clear-up of the forum's old posts)! In the older one, they posted much more, especially Marcus. :)

I can't take a review that starts by complaining about the band's current sound and longing for the "good old days" seriously.

Hard to say since we only know a snippet but the chorus seemed to have a ANATO feeling.

You would suffer from it if i had to describe a new song just by words (in english), that's for sure.

Nice idea, anyway :D

I did hope for some charity auction, but not this year it seems

Well, if it's so difficult to describe a song through words then one can use some pictures as images, I think :).

I'm curious about the ballad "Miracle Machine".
I really hope it will not be a medieval style ballad as I don't like them that much.

Hansi's best ballad performance ever ( and ever ever) will stay "Those we've left behind".

This sounds simply perfect to me. It would be the best BG ballad by far!! (if there wouldn't be this tiny little problem that it wasn't written by BG.)

Not joking, when I first heard this song I cried and it still gives me goosebumps.

If you are not aware of the song, here it goes:

It is a good ballad, no doubt there, but I cannot agree on the part where it could have been BG's best by far... (but then again, neither do I agree on the medieval style). For me some of the strongest ballads done by BG are Harvest of Sorrow, A Past And Future Secret, Curse My Name and Lord Of The Rings (LOVE the orchestral version on TFT, and also the combination of this one and the original during live shows!)

Nice ballad, but that's one of the fucking saddest songs I've ever listened. Fuck this song!
Now I'm riding through the air

On the way I cross the line forevermore.

Yeah, it's a sad song, but I have to admit that it's one of the most played songs on my player for the last 2 years...I'm not kidding...maybe it's about some period of my life, but I really feel that song as a BG song, it has some really deep magic in it and Hansi's vocals are just outstanding :)

There are many sad BG songs, but this one crosses the line to depression. Anything else can be tolerated/mended, but the idea of unfulfilled dreams due to an early death sounds absolutely devastating to me. And I don't even have any deceased friends.

My God, totally forget Down Where I am. Words are needless here...Hard to describe it: emotional, sad, melancholic, desperate, touching, deep...just outstanding song..seriously, I have no idea how I just forget this song, even the fact that it's the song that take me through DW(together with blood on my hands) and after that, being already in love with Hansi's voice, my BG journey began :)

Well, Down Where I Am is about a kid with down syndrome. At least it's not dead... Fiddler on the Green has kind of a nice ending to it, the two children meet with each other in the afterlife. Both songs are sad, but they at least have a sunny ray. Love's Tragedy Asunder is a sadder song, however at least in that the couple had some good life together... Those We've Left Behind cuts everything from the fucking root, and gives you nothing to hope for or remember. That's just dark. I'd be surprised if the writer isn't depressed.

I know what you mean. But even in this sad context Hansis voice bearing something warm and encouraring.

I do prefer happier songs myself (Freedom Call anyone?), sadly this world can be a pretty dark place. Just regarding animals living and dying in agony for mass husbandry, childrens robbed of their childhood and being abused for war etc.
Songs like this are imoportant to give us a proper view on things we normally would like to dismiss.

Going a bit off-topic, but I like depressing songs too. With songs like "Down Where I Am", "Love's Tragedy Asunder" or, say, Dream Theater's "Space-Dye Vest" I get one of the weirdest experiences one can ever get: you listen to this dark, hopeless music along with sorrowful lyrics and it makes you feel both pain and pleasure at the same time. You're in pain because the song is so overwhelmingly sad, and you feel a sort of satisfaction because you can relate to it, as if you were embracing the writer's empathy. Sometimes I call this the most pleasing torture one can experience :(.

I tend to say that "The sound of melancholy has a nice colour"
At times I just love a good set of malancholical songs, wallowing in it like in a warm bath, and oftentimes it suddenly seems my own problems aren't that bad anymore (for a while)

Now I'm riding through the air
Going to where no one dares
On the way I cross the line forevermore.
For once in life, I do not care
Nothing matters, now I dare
On the ride I'll cross the line
Forever to be free
