A Voice in the Dark video clip

All talk about Blind Guardian, including discussion about tour dates, etc.

A Voice in the Dark video clip

#1 Post by brazilian_bard » 11 Jan 2012 16:40

I have nothing against Nuclear Blast... many bands I like have a deal with it...but they're pushing too much.

Or it may be the band... I mean... they don't sound, they don't even look like BG I've always known.

I really found this video and song a little bit weird. For MY ears.

Well maybe you didn't like BG as much as you thought even before you saw the video clip. Cause it's been over a year since its release. Now about the video clip, its a bit sucky yes. But the music has absolutely nothing to do with the video. You need to separate those two things. Also, that isn't the full version of the song. I don't know if that makes a big difference though. I never tried to "get into" the short video clip version.
Now I'm riding through the air
Going to where no one dares
On the way I cross the line forevermore.
For once in life, I do not care
Nothing matters, now I dare
On the ride I'll cross the line
Forever to be free

Well, one image is more valuable than a thousand words. I must confess I didn't hear much the album version, so I've just made it again now, and the song really felt more interesting. It's BG, no doubt. I think the video clip left me with a negative impression of the song. (And if it has nothing to do with the song, well, why it has been made?)
I liked it more now, listening on my iPod. You're right.
I don't know if it's an impression, but the main theme/riff of this song is similar to that one in "This will never end" (after the first scream of Hansi).

Well I dunno really, but even the lyrics of the song don't match the video clip. The song is about a Song of Ice and Fire, the video clip shows mayan pyramids and stuff. Very relevant. Anyway, I think the clip was kinda low budget, and maybe not totally controlled by BG either. At least some perspectives. That old man with the beard looks like some vagrant/drunk/bum/homeless guy that they picked off the street.

When I first watched the clip, I couldn't get the lyrics by ear, and I started wondering how they changed their "focus", because I felt like I was watching "300" movie or similar. When I have always associated BG music and lyrics with medieval, middle earth Tolkien things, wich I consider amazing. I'm sure they have other "topics" on their entire career, I say this because "Somewhere far Beyond" is my favourite album, and have strong links with that Tolkien stuff.

Those mayan pyramids and stuff diverge a little, I think.

I've read the lyrics of this song... and really, I'm still searching for a relation between the song, the lyrics and the clip. I just can't find.

How do you know this song is about a Song of Ice and Fire? Sorry for my ignorance.

Hansi said so in an interview. Plus, the lyrics match.

Back during the release of the album I opened a thread with that same topic, some people who have read the book answered. Here you go: viewtopic.php?f=2&t=37541&start=0. You can also watch the Game of Thrones tv series (or of course read the books), some parts are related to the song. Awesome series btw.

The lyrics can match with the song. But don't looks like it match with the video. Better, the video don't seems to match the lyrics.

Does the others NB bands edit their songs for the videos?

Rage did so too for No Fear, and Speak of the Dead was their first NB-album.

Oh... sorry, my english is not the best. I was thinking you were saying the lyrics match the video.
Now it looks like you were just saying that Hansi talked about the lyrics.

I've read bestpike's topic, and now I know better the history. The guy falling seems to be the only thing that has anything to do with the lyrics. And yes, that old man looks like a homeless guy.

If the voice isn't the three-eyed crow, still the voice stays a mistery in the dark...

Horrible video. The worst they've ever done and they haven't done a good one yet.

They say that there's a broken light for every heart on Broadway.
They say that life's a game, then they take the board away.
They give you masks and costumes and an outline of the story
Then leave you all to improvise their vicious cabaret...

Still the goddamn Batman.

Mr. Sandman?

This is what I can't understand, why Mr. Sandman? Why they didn't made a clip for "I'm Alive", "Time Stands Still" or "Turn the Page" ?

What is 'ASM'?

I've watched recently Blind Guardian live in Bangkok video, and Bright Eyes too. And yes, Hansi playing that purple bass is epic!

Why the hell all their singles (and videos) are edited? If the songs were long but even the short songs are edited too.

That's why I always love Iron Maiden singles, only a few are edited, the majority are the complete versions even if the songs are long.

It must be for the clips duration, that must be limited...

I've watched the Mr. Sandman clip, it's pretty crazy. ASM song is awesome, but the clip looks like a Nuclear Blast's marketing thing.

I didn't realize what they've done with Andre solo in the Another Stranger Me videoclip. The solo is amazing, and has almost 30 seconds. In the video it must have 5 seconds, if have...

It's good you liked! Really. What I think is annoying some fans is the fact that it does not have much to do with the lyrics of the song. It does not have much to do with the band, does not match with the band proposal... but it may be their most produced videoclip... even not being that good.
