If I'm not mistaken there will still be level scaling for dungeons but not for enemies that roam the land. They've confirmed 4 guilds so far but hopefully there will be more. The Rider Of Rohan wrote:Well, there's no scaling, and 4 guild. So that's good enough.
Re: Elder Scroll V: Skyrim
I heard there will be scaling, but enemies on a certain area will be locked to the level you first explored that area, or something to that effect. Quite a good idea, imo... if I recall correctly and if it's actually true.

Re: Elder Scroll V: Skyrim
Yeah, I read that too. It's a cool idea, because it makes leveling up serve a purpose: to be able to vanquish a demon that was too strong before.
I can so totally see myself entering and exiting every possible dungeon for the purpose of locking down the level to something feasable just in case I have to visit said dungeon later on in the game.

Re: Elder Scroll V: Skyrim
Hmmm yeah, though now that you mention that, I would also like it if there were at least a few locations with fixed enemy levels... Part of what made exploration in Morrowind so exciting was that there was always a possibility the cave you just entered was a lair of vampires who would completely roflstomp you. Or you might run into some crazed badass mofo wielding a daedric longsword while you were still level 5 with your puny little steel dagger. And if you somehow managed to beat him... well shit, you got that daedric longsword because you fucking earned it, not because the game thought you're now on a suitable level for everyone to have one.The Rider Of Rohan wrote:Yeah, I read that too. But yeah, all in all I'm pretty optimistic about Skyrim. I just hope the character development side hasn't been "streamlined" too much. That's basically the only thing I'm worried about, Beth making the game too close to an arcade action game, to appeal to the console-gamer couchpotatoes.
Yes, I am still a PC-gaming elitist. How could you tell?

So far all reviews have been extremely positive and I've heard that Austrialia broke the street release date so some people already have the game.

Yeah there was some step by step guide on steam that got deleted on how to trick steam into thinking you are from australia so you can play it earlier lol, but i pre-ordered a physical copy so it doesnt apply to me, I have to stand outside in the freazing cold while people on steam get to sit in their houses and even get the game a couple hours earlier.

ok this isnt funny, my buddy tricked steam into thinking he was from australia and has been playing the game the whole day, i have to wait another 18 hours or so to play as i work tomorrow
Re: Elder Scroll V: Skyrim
I was expecting to get to play the game today, but my preordered copy didn't arrive in the mail afterall. And because the mail stands still during weekends, I'll have to wait until next week to get it.

Re: Elder Scroll V: Skyrim
I loved Morrowind. I returned my copy of Oblivion after 4 hrs of gameplay. I really tried to like Fallout 3 and Fallout New Vegas but got bored real quick by both. I never was a fan of RPG and RPG-like games. I always was a FPS and action gamer. I shouldn't like Skyrim. I know it. I know it's not my type of game. BUT GODDAMN I'M SO FUCKING ADDICTED TO THIS FUCKING GAME!!!!
At work I keep thinking about it, cursing time to hurry up so I get to go home and play it. I think about Skyrim more than I think about sex...well not but close...
WHY AM I WASTING MY TIME TYPING WORDS HERE WHEN I COULD BE PLAYING SKYRIM???!!!????

I haven't played it yet, but it does sound like a sexual act on an aeroplane: "I say my dear, would you be so kind as to give me a good skyrim to get me in the mood?"

Re: Elder Scroll V: Skyrim

"Sing it you pussies!"
Re: Elder Scroll V: Skyrim
Finished the main quest at level 39 and I know how opponents and dungeons are leveled and all but still i think it was quite easy...at least there is some kick-ass music near the end

Re: Elder Scroll V: Skyrim
It's too easy and it gets formulaic. Due to the leveling and all, it's more like an action game, which I really didn't like. It has some very nice sequences and atmospheres, though, in particular early on, when stuff is fresh.
It's a good game, all in all, but not really among the top contenders in the genre.

Skyrim has really been a great game so far and something that really interests me. I love how the world is really big that you can pretty much devote a lot of time with just discovering each boundary you are going to get at.
Though I hate those people who would claim they are playing a hard game only to switch to easy once they are up against a big dragon.

Re: Elder Scroll V: Skyrim
Played about 30-35 hours of it so far. It's pretty fun, but that's it. Nothing particularly amazing or compelling. After I ran into two nearly identical bandit fortresses within about 45 seconds running of each other that looked like about 6 other bandit fortresses I'd cleared out, I decided that replaying the Mass Effect series again in preparation for ME3 seemed more interesting.
It was a nice change playing a game that seems to be inhabited by people instead of ambulatory bricks. I'll probably come back to Skyrim every once in a while until I finish it, but at the moment I don't really see myself replaying it after that. So yeah, Elder Scrolls is overrated is basically what I'm saying.

Play on Master difficulty, get your shit completely wrecked on a regular basis, have tons of fun.
And even on Master difficulty, with the right (or wrong) skill/perk selection you can make your character into a complete unstoppable murder machine. My first character just vaporizes anything in her path with a couple dual-wield power attacks. Anything she hasn't already one-shotted with archery sneak attacks, that is.
My current character is a lot more challenging so far, a brain-addled and demented khajiit conjurer. He does romp around in heavy armor wielding a huge fuckoff battleaxe a lot of the time because he's an idiot, but since I've not invested any perks in his armor skills, a nasty look from anything tougher than a mudcrab will kill him.
They just have to get through his summoned pets and barrage of illusion spells, first.

He's also the most goddamn mental looking khajiit you will have ever seen.

This was easily the best game of 2011 and I'm still playing. It's seems to be more than a game... it's more like a dream... an ethereal escape from the mundane shackles of reality...
I better stop there though, I'm starting to sound like a basement dweller...

Re: Elder Scroll V: Skyrim
Wow, 2 years after my last post about this - forgetting that this topic even existed - I have totally vindicated myself.
Replaying Mass Effect was definitely the better choice. I finally came back to and beat Skyrim almost exactly 2 years after that post. Yes, beat. I did everything. Sank, like, 175 fucking hours that I'll never get back into it. It was alright. I had fun mostly. Sort of. Still severely overrated. Still has main-storyline breaking bugs after all the patches (seriously, why do some developers get hate for minor bugs while Bethesda gets a pass for basically using their players for bug-testing).
Honestly, after around the 50-hour mark, I just kinda went into this zone, where I'm not sure I was even having all that much fun. Mostly, I think I felt steely-determination as I grinded my way through dungeon after repetitive dungeon with nothing but the vague outline of a laughably-written story to guide me. A weird kind of fun, but one I hope never to repeat. I'm not sure if I'm proud of my perseverance, or disgusted with how I spent my time.
Looking forward to playing Dragon Age: Inquisition and The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt when they come out. They will undoubtedly be far superior RPG experiences.

Re: Elder Scroll V: Skyrim
Every now and then I load the game (whoops, sorry for that !), all pumped up and ready to finish this fucker once and for all. But then I take a few steps, swing my sword a couple times, shout some trolls over a cliff ... and then I suddenly feel emotionally drained. So I quit the game after 10 minutes and go do something I enjoy infinitely more. Like folding laundry. I never experienced this sick determination to finish a game I was already done with over 2 years ago (Led Guardian I know where you're coming from !). Will I ever finish it ? Probably, but I can totally imagine that this won't happen until I'm well in my forties. At the moment I'm spending most of my gaming time trying to wrap up some other oldies (like Bioshock Infinite, Dishonored (what a letdown this turned out to be) , Resident Evil 6 and so fucking many more ...) , after I found out I hardly finished any game I bought in the last 3 years ...

Re: Elder Scroll V: Skyrim
Skyrim has one of those endings that are good but not worth saving for later. I say finish it and then make a new character that's completely different than the one you have.
The game also continues after the ending as if nothing happened so it's very anticlimactic.
Also, if you are on the PC, there are mods that make the game infinitely more interesting and absorbing (Or ludicrously weird if you're into that).

This is what I thought I'd end up doing. I honestly can't figure out why the determination was strong enough to keep going.
