#1 Post by cowboys » 26 Oct 2010 03:14

This cruise has been discussed over in the coffee shop already, but as Blind Guardian today got added to the lineup it deserves to be discussed here!!

http://www.70000tons.com/

Artists so far announced (still 6 to go):

http://www.70000tons.com/artists.htm

So come on - who's going? My wife and I will be flying over from Australia for it. Its going to be a once-in-a-lifetime experience for us.

Blind Guardian AND Iced Earth! Got to be some Demons & Wizards action :D

Wife and I signed up for it months ago, when only 17 of the 40 bands had been announced.

At that stage, Sonata Arctica and Epica were the only 'must see' bands for us.

Soooo glad we signed up when we did though!!!

The lineup now has 7 of my top 10 favourite bands on it - Blind Guardian, Iced Earth, Epica, Ensiferum, Gamma Ray, Dark Tranquillity and Sonata Arctica.

It is going to be incredible.

Crap! Wish I had tickets, now. I was gonna have some expendable cash, and probably gonna be free about that time, but didn't see quite enough that really interested me that I'd pay that much. Blind Guardian would've sealed the deal. xD Not enough to go now. -_- Hopefully it'll be around with the same acts next year.

That looks really awesome, despite that I'm not interested in the majority of the bands. I wonder if I can convince the guys in Sabaton to make me a band member...

Oh my god. O__O I would go hungry for months just to see HALF of those bands, cruise not included! But alas... I work two jobs, but seventeen-year-olds don't typically have that kind of money lying around. :'( Does anybody know if this is a one-time thing? If they do a repeat of this event sometime in the future I'd sell a kidney to get tickets for me and my boyfriend. XD

Valkyrja - the organisers have said that they want to make it an annual thing.

Not necessarily sailing the same ship, same course, same port of origin, but the same idea.

I cannot wait!!

I'm hoping KAMELOT get added. Which is highly likely since most of the band hail from Florida.

Absolutely my wife and I will be on the cruise!!

We booked our tickets when only 17 of the bands had been announced, and of those 17 only Sonata Arctica and Epica were 'must see' bands for us.

So now, 7 of my 10 favourite bands are on it now - Blind Guardian, Epica, Sonata Arctica, Gamma Ray, Iced Earth, Ensiferum and Dark Tranquillity.

So glad we took the gamble and booked early!!

Yeah gnome, haven't seen too many as very few metal bands ever make it down here to Australia :(

At least, the kind of metal bands I like anyway!

Out of the 34 bands named so far, the only ones I've seen live are:

Blind Guardian (twice in Melbourne in 2007)
Dark Tranquillity (once in Greece in 2004)
Death Angel (one at Bang Your Head in Germany in 2004)
Ensiferum (earlier this year in Brisbane)
Gamma Ray (twice - once in Greece, and once in Sydney)
Iced Earth (Bang Your Head Germany 2004)
Sonata Arctica (earlier this year in Brisbane with Ensiferum)
Testament (Bang Your Head Germany 2004)

Ah, that's fantastic! :D I'll definitely be going sometime in the future, then. I'm glad my financial inadequacy hasn't necessarily cost me the experience of a lifetime. It's kind of sad, all the great European metal bands hardly ever show up in the US at once for big festivals. Hopefully they'll do this near US waters again. :(

Well, I'm a little bit older than that, but I don't have that kind of money around either all the time. At least, not until May or June when the vacationmoney comes.

I really want to go and can go, but I have no one to go with! I'd have to spent $3000 to $4000 for an entire room to myself and as much as I love BG & Iced Earth I can't do it. Wish I could split the cost with someone I knew.

NY Metal fan, if you are genuinely interested visit the "Recruit a cabinmate" thread on the official forum:

http://www.70000tons.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=5

So 35 bands announced now. Only five to goooooooo

I would be stoked if just *one* more of the bands on my "must see live before I die" list get added.

So yeah if any of Kamelot, Tarot, Delain, Within Temptation, Edguy, Van Canto, In This Moment get added I will be incredibly happy :)

Only 1 month until I fly to america with my wife for this!!

This is my top 10 of bands that I will try my hardest to see twice:

1 - Epica
2- Iced Earth
3- Sonata Arctica
4- Dark Tranquillity
5- Blind Guardian
6- Gamma Ray
7- Ensiferum
8- Amon Amarth
9- Sabaton
10-Saxon

I'm sure you are shocked that Blind Guardian are all the way down at 5, but the only reason is that I've seen them live twice already, whereas the other bands I love just as much and have only seen live once (and in Epica's case, never!).

Cannot wait!!

they upgraded some of the early bookers - there are some of the cheapest cabins available again
and you can get a 10% discount - just ask me, cowboys or pure_steel for the promo code

Word to the wise for those who are doing the cruise, watch out for Tony Kakko of Sonata Arctica. He's filming their tour doc on the cruise so you might be on YouTube in the near future

Started yesterday but the bands only get 1 hour sets. That kind of blows.

Either the ship doesn't have internet or all the major slackas are on board. Not a single setlist of a band that has played 2 days ago is posted yet on setlist.fm. Pfff, rich ppl, always lazy  .
Now I'm riding through the air
Going to where no one dares
On the way I cross the line forevermore.
For once in life, I do not care
Nothing matters, now I dare
On the ride I'll cross the line
Forever to be free
