Where do you buy your vinyl?

#1 Post by Baby_Kürsch » 10 Feb 2015 13:16

I've recently started to collect vinyl albums. This is mostly do to the various live local metal acts from around Texas I've been seeing. If you like doom metal Texas has some amazing doom acts. You normally get a digital download of the album and a sweet vinyl. Anyway after gathering 3 or 4 I decided it was time to get a record player so I can actually listen to them. So my set up is almost complete (speakers are on their way) and I was wondering if there were any good sites yall use to get metal albums on vinyl. Primarily I've been getting them at shows or on eBay.

I hardly buy any vinyl online. Record stores and flea markets for me.

But I also don't really buy new releases on vinyl but rather old albums from the 80s/early 90s.

There are a couple record shops in Houston but I have not visited them yet.

For new stuff I go to record stores. Sometimes I ask them to order something for me. I also order new stuff online if that is the only convenient way to get something I want.

I am not sure how it is in the US, but in Europe (Netherlands, Germany, England etc.) it is really cool to go to a record fair with some free to spend cash (I usually save up to about 100-200 euro's). Here, there are often quite some stands with classic rock, metal and modern releases in these genres.

I went to a big one in the Netherlands last year, and this is some the stuff I bought:
-Ayreon: Human Equation (17 euro's)
-Blind Guardian: Live picture disc box (50 euro's, used in great state)
-Demons & Wizards: st picture discs (24 euro's, new and sealed)

As for Blind Guardian, there was also a Somewhere Far Beyond original (very expensive, they also had a cheap bootleg though) and a signed ATITM coloured vinyl, for example. And there was much more cool stuff for a lot of bands.

For the Europeans, it was this one: http://www.recordplanet.nl/ Do go there if you love vinyl (or any format of records, really) and rock/metal/prog.

I was seeing the Live-Box a couple of times on ebay, selling for 50 or more. Ordered it 3 or 4 years ago in the webshop, paid 15. That was hilarious.

I buy all my vinyl both new and used from two places localy. The place I use most frequently is close to me, and it's a place called audiopile. Most of the new vinyl I get are various metal like the Eaten Back To Life album. I also use another place here called Neptune Records from time to time for both new and used vinyl.

There's also another place I just started going to that sells used vinyl, and it's a place called innovative audio, along with vintage audio they do sell vinyl, lots of it, and at extremely good prices.
