Dream Theater - A Dramatic Turn Of Events (2011)

I've listened to the first track, and it sounds amazing.

Portnoy IS the man, but the band keeps going. And stays fine.

I think it is a good album. I really like Breaking all Illusions, Bridges in the Sky, Underneath the Surface (the other ballads on the album are kind of weak though) and Lost Not Forgotten. Their best album for me is still Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence.

"Beneath The Surface"

It's a great album, and back to what they're good at. I liked Systematic Chaos for the most part, but Black Clouds & Silver Linings just wasn't that great besides two songs. It's unfortunate that Portnoy left, but he was just steering them in the wrong direction musically.

Oh, my bad :P Guess I was a bit tired when typing

Regarding the previous two albums: the count of tuscany is one of my favourite progressive tracks of all time, it has a really good storytelling vibe which I like a lot (hence BG being one of my fav bands) and has some really catchy lines along with a beautiful ending. The rest of the album did not do much for me though. I really like the metal stuff in Systematic, but the softer parts on that album were not really my taste. Those are always hit or miss for me with DT.

Soon I will see them live, I am really looking forward to it!

That's not too bad, considering there were only six songs on that album :P

But those two songs could have been almost half the album. I listened to bits of the new songs, and they sounded pretty shit, following the recent DT trend of sounding pretty shit. Actually, these days I'm starting to realize that with a few exceptions, this pretty much defines their entire career, so maybe it's not a new trend after all...
