favorite band?

#1 Post by teo_guardian » 06 Dec 2009 14:57

what a unique question

so what's your favorite band?can you name it?

for me -big surprise- it's Blind Guardian

they combine a Lot of great elements in their music, they are making always something new,the give great live performances
and they are way too friendly with people.

they also influenced me not only in my music but in my life also

Iron Maiden.

By default and by honorary merit, no matter how my tastes changed during the years and what I may be currently into at a given moment...

Ask me "What kind of music and bands you are into right now", and you may get 5-6 different answers depending on the time of the year you ask...
Ask me "What is your favorite band", the answer will always be that one: Iron Maiden 8)

Blind Guardian tied with Pink Floyd.

the only two bands that will always remain in my heart. Other favorites come and go, eventhough i'll never stop liking them, but they don't have the emotional connection to me that these two have.

For a long time I probably would have said Blind Guardian, but right now, I think I'm going to have to say Kamelot, with BG a close second.

Of all genres, its probably Bon Jovi.

Metal-wise, its a tie between Manowar, Maiden and BG.

Favorite solo-artis is Johnny Cash.

Hmmm.... tricky one. I could say ToTo or Rammstein, because those were the first 2 bands I got into... but I'll say HammerFall. And if if wasn't for them, I would never have found out about BG

Simple, Blind Guardian... whoever comes next though is a toughy. A 3 way tie between Iced Earth, Sonata Arctica and Iron Maiden

wasn't that simple to answer a few years ago, but now i can honestly say: Dezperadoz
not only because i like or rather their music (it helped me a lot over the last months), it's also because of the band itself. such nice, honest and uncomplicated people you find rarely these times!

Edit: found a spelling error after three years. and i still do that one sometimes, 'cause i'm too fast on my keyboard...

#1: Blind Guardian.
They are simply unique.
Demons&Wizards are second, but then there's a wide empty space and then a bunch of other bands :D

I have no idea, to be honest! I guess I'm just too much of a genre-hopper music-wise.

Some artists that I hold very close to my heart, however, include Loreena McKennitt, Pain of Salvation, Queen, New Model Army, Änglagård, and Arvo Pärt. I may almost forget about them, not listen to a single song for months, and then fall in love again.

I'm sorry, but I don't think BG would make this list.

And BG is not my favorite band either, we need Curufin to come out and say he's not completely obsessed about the band so that we can have the whole set of mods who "don't give a shit" about the band

Seeing as I traveled quite some distance twice to see them live in very small clubs, I suppose I would have to answer "Skyclad"! Hell, yeah!

According to some sort of scientific method I came up with, my favourite band is Pain of Salvation.

Though the band I most listen to these days is Faith no More.

Blind Guardian is easily first. Second is a much harder choice, between Pain of Salvation, The Flower Kings, Opeth, JT Bruce, and Ayreon.

Afterward, on a slightly lower level, Saxon and Rage.

And then all the rest.

I've recently discovered a few bands, and I'd put them in to my top 20.

They are: Vreid, Mistur, and Cor Scorpii. I might also add Windir, but I need to listen to more of them before deciding.

HAHA, I hope your joking. Saw Meat Loaf live once and while I was very excited to see how awesome he was...it was quite dissapointing. Still like his music though. My favorites are generic picks because they are..but they put on the best live shows ever.
Here's my top 10:

AC/DC
Motorhead
Blind Guardian
Judas Priest
Iron Maiden
Slayer
Kreator
Destruction
D.R.I.
Bolt Thrower
Black Sabbath should be on here I guess

BG still tops it, after all these years and several mental growth spurts, it's crazy how some of their songs that I used to listen to as a teenager take new meaning as an adult. They are truly masters of depth.

Old Elvenking is still very special to me, but their new stuff leaves me feeling so utterly sad. Those guys know they are more talented than that, but they want to make a living doing what they do, so I can't fault them for wanting more popularity.

Virgin Steele is my third favorite, they imo, have the best lyrics out of any metal band, David Defeis is a real poet, there are just so many image-inducing phrases in their songs. One of my favorites being "Chain of violence, a forsaken-crown, lay the dust of your future in shrouds", just beautiful. Bands like that are too smart for their own good so they fall into obscurity.

That's pretty much my holy trinity of metal though, I don't think that it will ever change.
