There s a new TSO-album out

#1 Post by The Rider Of Rohan » 16 Nov 2009 21:59

Didnt even know this one was released... I expected the boys to be occupied in the studio unti at least christmas 2012.

Anyway, the tracks I have heard sound amazing so far... including possibly the best rearranged version of Carmina Burana I have heard so far.

Trans Siberian Orchestra - what started as a spin-off of Savatage became a giant monster touring both sides of the states each year, and eventually sucking life out of Savatage!!!

A quick tour on their site www.trans-siberian.com will give you a better idea of how they blend classic music and rock by doing Christmas albums (and they ROCK, they're not sissy Xmas songs  ) and in between also some "normal" albums - the godly masterpiece that is Beethoven's Last Night, and the newly released Night Castle.

I like the new album quite a lot, it has great songs as Childood Dreams, The Safest Way into Tomorrow, Night Castle, and the two awesome masterpieces of 10 minutes that are There was a Life and Epiphany - best track by far of the album. It drags on a bit, with too many instrumentals, and maybe the best 77 minutes of it would have made a totally breathtaking and flawless record, but it's still quite enjoyable.

I heard it this morning and I have to say that I am rather disappointed. Maybe that will change if I listen to it some more but so far I feel that it is far less engaging than Beethoven's Last Night.

Well, the newsgroup I use is only 5 euro s a month. 8)

@ Taj: my feeling too, it doesn t seem to be as focussed as BLN. I still enjoy it lots, though.

Oro might ve hit the spot on with his remark about one 77 minute cd. Maybe Ill give it some more spins, delete some mp3s, and declare the rest the album of the year.

It grows but yeah, Beethoven's Last Night can't be topped.

ok.. having listened to it, it makes me feel that the first cd is just a bonus cd with especially the 2nd half of it just some left overs or something.
the last track of teh first disc (there was a night) had for some parts blatantly stolen the vocal melodies of Goodnight Saigon, by Billy Joel

but the 2nd cd is almost entirely pretty good. not as good as BLN, but quite good nonetheless.

I don't like the new CD other than a handful of tracks. The steals from Savatage are just too annoying for me. Yes, I know it was formed by Savatage members but still :|

If I like a band, I like to have all the albums. And from what I heard of them, I think it's a band I'll like very much.

Ok I have only listened to the first three songs of the new album, but I think it's absolutely amazing. And according to some here, it isn't even their best. Should be interesting.

I have to say that the album really grows on me. There s some weak stuff on cd 1, but even those songs arent that bad.

Oh, and Andreas... get BLN. Its amazing.

Hey! I registered cause of this topic.

The new TSO Night Castle is so good it brings back old memories of when I started listening to Savatage. It's really good.

Its been about amonth now since I started this topic, and I have made up my mind... this album is absolutely amazng. I was, following Oros remark, about to delete the songs from the album I didnt like.... and found out I only got rid of the Prelude To Madness-track. Every other song has something going for it.

So I recal my initial opinion that it was weaker than Beethoven. It isnt: its just different, thats all.

Absolutely my favorite album of 2009 and one I will definetely still be listening to on Christmas Eve.... 2010!

I am listening to it right now :D it's quite cool, and Epiphany is a total and complete masterpiece worth alone the album; I kinda lose it almost towards the end, around the Embers / Child of the Night moment, 'cause by that time you kinda feel that it's 2 hours that the album is going on, but still it's a worthwhile listening experience. I still think Beethoven is better but as Ferdi said this one is not bad, just different.

I've been listening to their album 'the lost christmas eve' lately. Not bad at all, as christmas music goes.

yeah! finally I have it too (it's not very easy to buy it in switzerland! )

the record is pretty tied up hanging upside down... no, what did I wanted to say? oh yes, ok, it's pretty good,
there are some really though songs on it. I prefer the two epic songs "what is this life" and "epiphany",
the vocalists for this both songs is the most impressive I think.
But not to forget the "nutcracker" - holy shit what a instrumental!

The Sava-Songs... I don't know. For me it's ok, eventually in this way the legendary band (RIP!) will be honored by many
listeners, who would never buy a sava-record
