Demons & wizards-The Immigrant Song (originally by Led Zeppelin) waaaaaayy much better that the original
also there's Dream Theater's cover of Perfect Strangers (Deep Purple)
All those plans and hopes and dreams what happens to them? it's only a handfull of the lucky ones who can look back and say that they even came close.
You can't take it with you. act III,scene I

That sounds like heresy to me.
You're going to hell. But not the cool one, that's where I'll go.
You go to the crappy hell.

Covers I prefer over the original:

Blind Guardian - To France (Mike Oldfield)
Nokturnal Mortum - Wild Child (W.A.S.P.)
Nokturnal Mortum - South of Heaven (Slayer)
Unleashed - Breaking the Law (Judas Priest)
Vader - Raining Blood (Slayer)

Those rock!
Where the lazure skies tear the hearts apart
And as leaden ice they remain deep inside your eyes
Where the morning burns starlight ashes to dust
All my songs I´ve thrown to the seven winds

I might be executed by the "Metal Militia", but I preffer COF's versions of Sodom's Sodomy and Lust and Anathema's Sleepless.

I seriously hate Scorpions with a passion. Don't know why though - they are good musicians and their compositions are also OK and I like a lot of the old rock bands (Deep Purple, Uriah Heep etc) but Scorpions make me want to drive a nail in my head. I guess it's the voice, yeah.

As for HammerFall - I just like it more than the poppy sound of the original.

I actually find HammerFall's version to sound a LOT "poppier"...

Pink Cream 69's version of My Sharona beats the living shit out of the original and anything Hammerfall has ever done, anyways.
And The Lord said unto John: 'Come forth and receive eternal life'.
But John came fifth, and won a toaster.

Ok I know I'll encounter the anger of Oro (and others most probably) because of this, but here goes:

Rhapsody - Power of thy Sword (original by Manowar).

I've tried to listen to the Manowar version a few times, but... it feels like a demo-ish, bald, dry version of the Rhapsody-song.

To describe it in one sentence: The Manowar-original is an insult towards the cover Rhapsody made.

Just my opinion, but I'll probably get butchered anyway 8)

D'uh, The Power of Thy Sword is one of the *best* Manowar songs....
"There's a time when a man needs to fight and a time when he needs to accept that his destiny's lost, the ship has sailed and that only a fool will continue. The truth is I've always been a fool"

A slight call afar is tempting me, like a whisper sweet or an awful scream; I cannot ignore what I've always been, I'm leaving again - one last time? in my little kingdom I can be what I really wanted to be... The wanderer

That's why I don't like them. I've gave them more chances than any band I've ever tried + rejected, but it didn't work for me. It sounds really boring, and if that's one of their best songs... not interested :?
