They say that there's a broken light for every heart on Broadway.
They say that life's a game, then they take the board away.
They give you masks and costumes and an outline of the story
Then leave you all to improvise their vicious cabaret...
Still the goddamn Batman.

Do you mind describing some of those bands and what kind of music they play? No one has time to randomly go through a list of bands they've never heard before. Thanks for your effort in advance.Omega Mule wrote:Tragedy's Dream

I'd recommend Auvernia for anyone who likes symphonic power metal with minor black metal influences. Singer isn't nothing special when it comes to power metal singers but they're songs are very well constructed with occasional and well placed bm guitars and blast beats (not DragonForce style though) here and there.

He just made up random band names to cynically comment on the indistinguishable jumble of underground band names being dropped here without further comment.

Those bands the most awesome of the unknown bands I know.
Not at all. My pleasure.Epic IM wrote: Do you mind describing some of those bands and what kind of music they play?
Tragedy's Dream – Keyboard laden heavy progressive mood metal fusion
Steel Soldiers of Blood - 80s style camp metal with lots of screaming about blood and bleeding
Axefire Stormrider - a natural blend of Accept’s virtuosity and Yngwie’s songwriting abilities
Parallel Mirror Visions - instrumental jazz/metal with 12 minute minimum song times
DragonWarrior – inventive power metal with unique lyrics about dragons and warriors
Circle of Battleshields - plodding mid-tempo metal anthems about war, armor and shields (not necessarily in that order)
Pentagram Warlords – catchy odes to Satan and various devils set to classic metal hymns
Furious Rites - they sound like Judas Priest would if Judas Priest had little talent and was furious about it
Devourers of Destiny – 70s influenced hard rock/metal with a distinctive twist: every song is about the sky
MetalRoar Attack - screeching vocals and screeching guitars, every song faster than the one previous, a real attack of pure, screeching metal
Gretchen’s Bloody Thighs – a Sinergy type of female fronted power metal outfit. Oddly, the singer's name is not Gretchen.
Devilmonica - Alabama bluegrass music with dueling harmonicas and lyrics about beating the devil at various barroom games
Severed Seraph – brooding power metal with big 80s pop hooks and vaguely religious undertones.
Elfhammer - Tolkien folk metal
Stark Raving Corpse - Okay, I admit it, I made this one up

Even though the Mule really ended up the thread (
), let me add that all the good bands are somehow already known. There aren't good bands no one knows - if a band is somehow good, someone will know them, if a band sucks, no one will hear about them.

Hour of Penance are a relatively unknown but totally kickass brutal death metal band from Italy.
Arcane Wisdom is an even more unknown band from Portugal that play somewhat experimental blackened metal. Apparently split-up, though.
Dreamsfear is likewise split-up. They were a doomy/thrashy band from Ireland.

The level of fame does not show the level of creativity, quality, or whatever naming factor I can throw in there.
All bands start out on some demo level, unfortunately MySpace has given more kids these days a chance to make and play metal. The first step towards this has gone from demo tapes to burning CD's and now onto MySpace.
It also takes certain bands a whole to get around to a known level. Remember Children of Bodom whenever they first came out? Not everyone knew about them. Looking at Deicide, they are well known and they're the worst thing to ever happen to metal.

No way, they've done an excelent work in promoting themselves, and are known far wider than you would expect from a band self-financing their releases.DragonZ wrote:dreamtone?
Again, they're fairly known, not known enough though.power_dysfunction wrote:Sieges Even (Oliver's other band)
Pagans mind is relatively known, having released several albums on a major label.
My list
Black Atom - http://www.myspace.com/blackatom - mix of NWOBHM and powermetal
Shraphead - http://www.myspace.com/shraphead - melodic trash
Souljourners - http://www.myspace.com/souljourners - progressive metal
Excelsis - http://www.myspace.com/excelsispowermetal - folk / power metal from Switzerland. Have released 5 albums so far, but not signed to major label and unfortunately relatively unkown.

What about Warmen?
I just got into them via a friend. It's the sideband of CoB keyboardist Janne Wirman. They remind me of Yngwie/Stratovarius from the neo-classical keyboard work and thankfully sound nothing like CoB (no offense to any fans)

yeah, they're kind of cool. It's fun for me to have followed them from a myspace-like norwegian site to getting signed on what is a major metal label in Norway (they're on TUBA, aren't they?)

As for metal bands...
Ilbeltz
Heol Telwen
Kayo Dot
Parabstruse
Mar de Grises
Pagan Altar
Mithotyn
Helstar
Scald
The Angelic Process
And in other styles...
Woven Hand
In Gowan Ring
Skibbereen
Pererin
Areknamés
Kammarheit
Ghoultown
Afenginn
Scary Bitches
Naervaer
...and many others
These bands range between somewhat well-known but just not very much (Kayo Dot, Mithotyn, Woven Hand), to absolutely criminally unknown (Ilbeltz, Skibbereen, Areknamés).

Anybody know of Superior? They were (sadly they broke up in 2007) a prog metal band, and a quite good one. I only heard the Younique album and I think is an over the top work. If you like dream theater (the "Younique" album is more similar to Awake or Train of thought I think) you should check this out now!. But is really hard to find something about them even in the Internet.

I have their Younique album and I listen to it all of the time. Originally I got it because Andre Matos guests on one of the songs but I ended up falling in love with the whole album

That reminds me, I still need to get their previous albums at some point.

Glad to read that
If I'm not wrong they have: the first one wich I can't recall the name of, Younique, and their last, Ultima Ratio.
I strongly recomend this to any prog metal fan. They were so good.
