Sounds great! I'll bring a mattress and a sleeping bag, no problem.
I don't know yet if I can take a day off work, so I'll probably arrive in Amsterdam on Friday evening (either 8:30 or 10 pm, depending on which train I can take) and leave on Sunday evening (around 4 pm).
Looking forward to seeing all of you again! :D

I was hoping to go and see the Shared Space projects in Drachten, but I appreciate that not everyone share my passion for Urban Traffic Design. Nor wish to hear my droning expert opinion on the subject.

I would say the lack of relationship between the signal and the signified is illogical.
You charge each other for the time and breath it takes to say 'good morning',
But the truth is slowly dawning -- things are getting out of hand,
We all pursue our shattered dreams along the roads to our own ruin --
Watch our empires sink and wash away like castles made of sand.
And so cast off the lies that are your lives and find the truth within.

I sense a practical joke in the making.

also, you might be interested to know that I had a dream last night where I was sitting next to a canal in Amsterdam having a beer. Suddenly I hear my 84 years old boss' voice and I turn around to see him talking to some guy. He looked at me, I looked at him, we raised a pint and winked at each other. My boss is kinda cool.
I told him about it today and he was really jealous that I'm going to Amsterdam next month, I think he genuinely wanted to join us muhahahah!

Ok, guess we should confirm a couple of things, mostly decide on who sleeps where, please make your preferred choice known to us. I know that Bart will be joining as well and might have some sleeping space as well, but I'll have him confirm things himself. Considering that we might make Alkmaar our base of ops, Marcel and Bart live there, I live about 10km from Alkmaar, and Alkmaar is about 45km north of Amsterdam, thus I've ordered our names in order of vicinity.
I've also tried to order the activities a bit, The cities named here are easy to reach from Alkmaar and we could decide on activities there "on the go", other places in the Netherlands are always possible, but would require a little bit more planning/looking up available options. Of course there is plenty more to do around here, I would like to invite the dutchies to add more ideas to the table.

Dates: Friday 14 - Sunday 16 September (with possible extensions)
Location: Western Netherlands (region Amsterdam/Alkmaar for the base camp)

People able to offer a couch/bed/mattress:
Bart (able to host about 6 people if they bring sleeping gear

Marcel (able to host about 6 people if they bring something to lie on)
Susan

Steven (able to host about 6 people, if they bring a campingmattrass/airbed and a sleepingbag)

Joost (able to host 2 or 3 people)
Thomas

Maarten (okay, I live an hour away from Amsterdam (more from Alkmaar) but I haz space if need be)

People attending:
Ohad
Sarah
Rieke
Silvia
Els
little vero (?)

Definate do's:
  • Drink beer, heersch, sing the Bard's song, and have fun
  • HAVING FUN!
Cities:
Visit Alkmaar/Bergen
  • City walk
  • Beermuseum
  • Cheesemuseum
  • Walk through the dunes (Bergen)
  • Boattrip through the canals of Alkmaar
Visit Amsterdam
  • City walk
  • Boattrip through the canals of Amsterdam
  • Van Gogh museum
  • Rijksmuseum (small temporary collection)
  • Sex museum
  • Amsterdam museum
  • Maritime museum
  • Brewery 't IJ (tour and/or drinking beer in a nice location)
Visit Hoorn/Enkhuizen/Medemblik
  • City walks
  • West-Fries museum (about the golden age of holland and the VOC)
  • Steamtram Hoorn-Medemblik combined with boattrip Medemblik-Enkhuizen (or vice cersa)
  • Radboud castle in Medemblik
Other:
  • Concert
  • Tour of the Polders
  • Visiting the island of Texel

I'll be free on friday and monday as well.. I will have to go to university on thursday though. Would be handy to know when people arrive and in which way, mainly for those requiring a pick-up at an airport or station ;)

Some useful information for those who will stay at my place: there is a 20min bike-ride involved from my house to the station, or a 20 min busride to Alkmaar, but with an early last bus back home.

I'll update the list with Bart's 6 people.

Dear people. I'm afraid I'll have to cancel. We'll be having a gig end of september and our rehearsal room is closed for refurbishing this week. We need the extra rehearsal time and since rehearsals are mondays and fridays, it won't do to be away for a whole weekend.
I'd have loved to see you all again in that nice little country I've learned to adore, but alas, other nice things have intervened.

:( Would have liked to see you again Tex! (at least you got your fix of speculoos ;))

I am certainly going to accompany you one day (at least the day in Amsterdam). Probably more, depending on my mood and my need for alone-time. I don't need a place to stay, since I'll stay at my parents place in Amsterdam (who have a very tiny house, so I can't offer anyone else sleeping space, sorry!).

There are bad news and good news.

The good news: I still badly want to come.
The bad news: I'll probably only make it friday-saturday, with arriving friday somwhere in the evening (between six and nine) and leaving saturday somwhere around midday (though that could be stretched. Still trying to figure out how). But I could do that. If now nothing changes anymore.

And then it would be enormously helpful if better to go to Amsterdam or Alkmaar. For the train ticket.

Or Rieke: How do you get there? Any chance you could give me a ride?

DONE !

Seems like the more it goes, the more I'm experimenting new ways to get to Heerschland !
I'm jumping on a carshare with strangers on the way in, and splashed the gold money for the return as I'll need to be at work almost straight after.

So I'll be in Amsterdam in the early afternoon on Friday, all sweaters and airbed involved and I'm leaving on the monday around 11am (I'm working the same day at 5pm - damnit restless trips !)

Can't get refunds, so this all better heersch ! (and I am not worried)

So, how's the pressure working out on the indecisive ones ? Daan ? Michael ? Barry ? Grunningers ?

And I think I'd like a bit more of a plan (what activity on which day), since I'll probably be joining saturday, but am not sure for the sunday yet, and need to plan some small stuff around the meeting as well.

Actually, my flight is on Thursday morning, arriving in Schiphol at 10:15am (flight LY0337). If you're not free at the time, it's ok, i'm sure I'll find a way to entertain myself in amsterdam for a few hours and then make my way to your place. Although it would be smart to figure out how to get there before I fly.

also, better start some phone list:
  • Ohad: + Nine Seven Two - Five Four - Five Six Six Five Three Two Six

Ohad, if you arrive on thursday, you can travel back with me after my lessons at university, I'll be meeting with Silvia at about 15.00 at the Dam square, between the palace and the church.

As for phonenumber: Steven: +three-one six one-eight-zero-three-five-seven-nine-two

As for a provisional planning, I was thinking that it might be best to do stuff in Amsterdam on saturday, as friday will be an arrival day, it may be better to simply spend time in/around Alkmaar... Sunday we could visit other towns, besides the already mentioned ones there are plenty more nice cities (Haarlem, Utrecht, just to name a few).
I reckon we could start saturday with a Canal Tour, and then decide during the tour what to do next...

Also, it might be usefull to know if there are things on the list that some people really do NOT want to do, would save us the trouble of considering it ;)

I would hate the canal tour, so I'll just join you later in Amsterdam. I'll have my coffee-date with a nice woman in the morning, and will have phone contact to see where we meet :)

+three one six two one six six one six six two
You charge each other for the time and breath it takes to say 'good morning',
But the truth is slowly dawning -- things are getting out of hand,
We all pursue our shattered dreams along the roads to our own ruin --
Watch our empires sink and wash away like castles made of sand.
And so cast off the lies that are your lives and find the truth within.
