forum meAting in Europe

#1 Post by Sleeping Dragon » 01 Jul 2012 17:33

there was talk around here of a European meeting this summer (I think someone mentioned some chick's birthday in Dutchistaan :P ).

I'm all game for that, but my boss is in the business of wanting dates for summer vacations and I need to catch a wagon (or was that a budget flight, I can never tell the difference).

Don't leave your lord and savior hangin'... again.

Second weekend of September it is.

I could actually make myself available for this weekend...
Dreamland turned to realland and we faced a new frontier
We lost the world
Sometimes we hold it but it's slipping away
When we add reality it doesn't taste like our dream

2nd weekend of September would be awesome! :) I'm definitely in (and have a limited amount of sleeping space for guests available at my apartment in Amsterdam).

(Don't know any Dutchie forum girls having their birthdays then, though...)
You charge each other for the time and breath it takes to say 'good morning',
But the truth is slowly dawning -- things are getting out of hand,
We all pursue our shattered dreams along the roads to our own ruin --
Watch our empires sink and wash away like castles made of sand.
And so cast off the lies that are your lives and find the truth within.

Awesomeness!
obviously there will be some limited sleepingspace here as well, as long as you don't mind the cats ;)

Let's do some planning then:

Dates: Friday 14 - Sunday 16 September (with possible extensions)
(the weekend Marcel proposed, but actually it's the third weekend of September!)

Location: Western Netherlands (region Amsterdam/Alkmaar for the base camp)
(OR Landshut, perhaps?)

People attending:
Joost
Steven (?)
Marcel (?)
Ohad (?)
Sarah (?)
Rieke (?)
Thomas (?)
Silvia (?)

People able to offer a couch/bed/mattress:
Joost (able to host 2 or 3 people)
Steven

Things to do:
- Drink beer, heersch, sing the Bard's song, and have fun
- A good walk through the dunes!
- Maybe a concert? (On the 14th there's a Fields of the Nephilim concert at Incubate in Tilburg. Not sure if other people are interested in that, but I certainly am!)
- Maybe visit some museums? (Amsterdam has a lot to offer museum-wise, ranging from the conventional traditional and modern art museums and some nice historical museums to more... alternative museums (mostly focusing on the "sex, drugs and rock 'n' roll" aspects of life), and in Alkmaar there is the beer museum in which I am quite interested too!)
- Or visit a brewery (brewery 't IJ in Amsterdam (which has some fantastic beers) has a tasting room where you can sit down for one of their beers and some simple snacks, but there are also tours in the brewery itself. If anyone would think of visiting the Heineken experience, I'm sure the Dutchies will veto that, though... :P)

Everything above is preliminary, feel free to suggest alternatives and add other ideas, but this seems to be a suitable time and location! Also, if you think you are likely to go, please remove the question mark beneath your name.
You charge each other for the time and breath it takes to say 'good morning',

all you'd need to bring is an airbed/campingmattrass and a sleepingbag. (though I do have 2 couches which can be used to sleep on... and hopefully by the time the meating happens I finally cleaned up the mess in my studyroom so I can put down an extra mattrass there)

Well, there has been too many questionmarks too many times. I might try my luck for a quick visit in the summer -ie before Noam leaves- but a big meating is always good :)

oy vei! just looked into flights and realized that that weekend is Rosh-hashana, when the jews plug up the airport trying to get their greasy Shtreimels out of the country. this means i'll need to book soon to get a spot.

on the up-side, i'll have sunday through tuesday off work regardless if I take any vacation days, so more dutchie-time for me!

Dates: Friday 14 - Sunday 16 September (with possible extensions)

Location: Western Netherlands (region Amsterdam/Alkmaar for the base camp)

People attending:
Joost
Steven
Marcel
Ohad
Sarah NO QUESTIONMARKS SHALL KEEP ME AWAY FROM HEERSCHLAND
Rieke
Thomas
Silvia
Els
little vero (?)

People able to offer a couch/bed/mattress:
Joost (able to host 2 or 3 people) I'd call bids on a spot. Not that big of a fan of sleeping in rooms with a lot of people.
Steven (able to host about 6-8 people, if they bring a campingmattrass/airbed and a sleepingbag)
Marcel (able to host about 6 people if they bring something to lie on)

Things to do:
- Drink beer, heersch, sing the Bard's song, and have fun (+1)
- A good walk through the dunes! (+1)
- Maybe a concert? (On the 14th there's a Fields of the Nephilim concert at Incubate in Tilburg. Not sure if other people are interested in that, but I certainly am!) (+ maybe)
- Maybe visit some museums? (Amsterdam has a lot to offer museum-wise, ranging from the conventional traditional and modern art museums and some nice historical museums to more... alternative museums (mostly focusing on the "sex, drugs and rock 'n' roll" aspects of life), and in Alkmaar there is the beer museum in which I am quite interested too!) (+1!)
:P) (-1, breweries are smelly and we know how beer is made ;))
- a tour through the dutch lowlands (polders) including the Beemster (unesco protected area) museum windmills and other trve authentic stuff (+1, yeah, why not. Trve Nederlands Polder Metal)
- city walks through some smaller cities (enkhuizen/alkmaar/hoorn) (-1, I'd rather walk through dunes and museums)
- renting a bike and taking a tour on the island of Texel (including brewery and/or museum) (-1, fat old fuck)
- HAVING FUN! (-1, I sing in a black metal band now, I cannot be observed having fun ;))

No Heineken, but nice belgian brews.

I'm bringing an airbed, too, but I would prefer a couch.

Noted!

Just out of curiosity, what do you guys have against Heineken? I think it's a decent enough beer. Not the best, but also not horrible.

It tastes like watery and bitter, with no substance or interesting flavors.

@isis: have you informed about the trains? there's a pretty decent connection from Eindhoven to Amsterdam and/or Alkmaar. Having experience of both options, i would prefer train :)

what are you plans for the rest of the week?

I was hoping to go and see the Shared Space projects in Drachten, but I appreciate that not everyone share my passion for Urban Traffic Design. Nor wish to hear my droning expert opinion on the subject.
