Dear Metal people,

after waiting so patiently for the past two years, it's back: We are asking you to give us some musical input! As we previously announced, it was only a 2010 anniversary exception to not go through new applications, but instead to
pick out a best of Dong billing.

But here we are, asking anyone who'd like to spend the 15th and 16th of July 2011 rocking the Dong hill, to submit your band's audio material! It doesn't matter if you have a record deal or not, if you have played thousands of concerts or are just new to the stage, from Neukirchen-Vluyn or Madrid! As long as you submit at least three songs to give us a good impression what you're all about. Send us an oldschool CD, a myspace link or upload your mp3s (our favorite), give us a taste of what you have! Starting now and going until a couple of days before Christmas we'll have our sign up form on http://www.dongopenair.de at Backstage -> Band Applications.

Please keep in mind: We will only guarantee a reply to those who chose this online way of applying! So take it into your own hands and have influence who'll be rocking the DOA 2011! Sign up your own band or tell your favorite bands to do so. It's not rocket science!

Ho, ho, ho, dear Dongians!

Did the mulled wine already make your nose red and glowy? Even if that’s the case, please don’t forget that time is running out for bands to apply to play at the DOA 2011! The deadline is coming up fast, and to make things worse we’ll have to cut time even shorter. Just two days, though: You can still apply up till the 17th of December. That’s a deadline you’ll have to meet to make sure your application makes it in time.

If you have applied through the Myspace website, please send us another mp3 upload or send us your music via snail mail. Unfortunately Myspace has been incredibly unreliable which is why we don’t want to continue this. We apologize for this short term notice, but we want to make sure that we actually get to listen to all of you.

As previously announced the DOA of 2011 will take place at the 15th and 16th of July!

One last request, this time regarding our Dong Open Air book: We have a whole bunch of nice pictures here, but we don’t know who took them. To consider them for our book, we need to know who owns the copyright, and if the photographers are okay with us using them. We have published a couple of pictures online for you to see, so you can take a look and claim them. If one of the pictures is from you and you would like it to be published in the book (with your name mentioned of course), please send us the large version of the pictures via email to liehremann@walismus.de This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Having presented you with our third band package to introduce Hatesphere as Overkill’s support, we now proudly present – SHAZAM! – Iced Earth as our second headliner at the Dong Open Air of 2011! This makes it twenty bands on whom you can find information on our website http://www.dongopenair.de including the festival’s running order.
But that’s not all! We are soon going to give you the date at which we’ll start the ticket sale and are also going to blast you with news that is most likely going to make your heart skip a beat!

With IE added to the billing, I guess DOA sells out in less than 20 minutes, which actually makes it harder.

Not to forget the fact that hopefully our new server will not collapse under the onslaught this time. I made some simulations, and it can take roughly 4 times the load of our old webspace.

Hello hard rocking metal heads!

Lead by the fantastic Iced Earth (who will be playing their last shows with Matt Barlow at the mic this summer!), Overkill, Hatesphere and Hackneyed, we have brought you the so far most international Dong billing ever: 20 bands from nine nations! After these two weeks of announcements, we would like to continue this good tradition. But before we announce the date of our ticket sale for 2001 we first have another little extra for you.

Many of you “complained” about how the Dong Open Air never lasts long enough. That’s about to change. This summer we’ll have three days of Dong’n’Roll! On Thursday night, the 14th of July, we are already going to give you five bands, starting out with Evile, the thrashers from the UK! Learn more about the bands Crosshead, Shraphead, Bloodwork and Motorjesus on our website, and take a look at the running order. You’ll still find a couple of question marks there as we are currently working very hard on getting a fine after show program (which we’ll of course tell you about soon)!

Also, we are going to present you with a new stage tent in 2011. Bigger and better it is, and we’ll definitely take advantage of this and give you bigger and better sound and quite some light apocalypses!

We know you are already itching for this info, so here it is: We are going to start our ticket sale on http://www.dongopenair.de on Sunday, the 20th of March 2011 at 12 noon! If you already know you want to come, be quick! Last year we sold all tickets within 30 minutes! So make up your mind. You can only order 9 tickets per order. We have amped up our server infrastructure to make sure the sale goes about smoothly. The tickets for the 2011 program, which is not only the most international with the most renowned artists, but also the longest, are only 39,90€ incl. VAT, parking and camping. And don’t you worry: We will still sell our top brand beer for 1,50€ per half liter when we worry about:

well, they'll play anywhere where they can find a power plug... Even I saw them, and I never even wanted to. I absolutely fail to see why they should be heirs of Guardian or Running Wild.

2012 date for the DOA and start of applications

Hey guys,

Let’s get started with the most important news: The 2012 Dong Open Air will take place from July 12th until July 14th. Yep, that’s right! Since so many of you showed up to party hard at this year’s festival Thursday, we decided to continue this in 2012.

Now on to further exciting news: Today, October 1st, our application phase for the 2012 DOA program officially starts. The same procedure as every year: We don’t care about your record deals, number of releases or where you’re from. The important part is your demo which we’d like you to upload through our application form on http://www.dongopenair.de. You may only apply through this application form. Because of the large number of applications we receive each year, we’ll have to ignore anything sent via mail or Myspace.

Please note that the deadline for applications is November 30th. So get your act together and send us your music. If you don’t play in a band but would really like a certain band to play, tell them about our application system (if you do play in a band and would like another band to play at the DOA, this goes for you as well, of course.

)

On to more entertainment: If you would like to know how hard we partied in earlier years or who rocked our stage in the past, check out the illustrated book about the D.O.A.: “Verhältnismäßig geil – 10 Jahre Dong Open Air”. We listed every band that played and you can take a look at them! There are a few copies left in our online shop!

Be heard in terms of what you liked and what we need to improve: Take a look at our DOA 2011 feedback form online and let us know how to make this party even better!
