Funniest gig moments

#1 Post by Lilyael » 13 Oct 2009 17:08

I've just been reminiscing with a friend about various gigs we've been to and the hilarity that thus ensued....
My best memory was of Wolfstone: they nearly didn't do their encore, because they somehow got themselves locked in their dressing room, and no-one could hear them banging on the door because we were yelling too loud ! They got out eventually though, oh how we mocked......very Spinal Tap.

so c'mon, I wanna hear everyone else's gig funnies.....
.......and you deserve us, Leviathan

I was at the Masters of RockAntenne concert and Aloha from Hell were the first band (and the worst). Vivi said: "The next song is called Fear Of..." and before she could speak the rest of the title someone right next to me shouted "Fear of the dark!"
Well, the song was called Fear Of Tomorrow, but...I´d rather heard Iron Maiden´s song :P
The Lights are up,
Now let the play begin!

let me see, at a Metal Church gig in Amsterdam in 2006, some totally wasted guy near me kept shouting a certain song title. (can't remember which one..) At some point Ronnie Munroe said: "Dude, weren't you paying attention?! it was the second song on the setlist!!"

pretty hilarious

Off the top of my head, the most recent one was at the Gods of Metal festival; during the Queensryche show the keyboardist started the recorded intro for Best I Can, which stopped abruptly halfway through, and he said, in perfect italian, "WHAT THE FUCK!!!!!!!!!!"   ("e che cazzo" for those interested  )

Pretty much everything that's ever happened at a GWAR show. I saw them once in Detroit and as an encore they played a cover of Kiss's "Detroit Rock City". But before they played it, Oderus, the voclist, went on this 5 minute tirade about how they wrote that song thousans of years ago and how Kiss stole it from them. Friggin' hilarious.

The first one that pops into my mind is that Scar Symmetry gig (must have been last year). Shortly after they started to play the next song (can´t remember which one it was), they stopped playing out of a sudden and Per ordered: "Einmal Schnitzel mit Bratwurst, bitte!"

pffft, even I knew what the bratwurst guy wanted, and I don't speak German ( although, apparently, more than I thought )

I saw Blackmore's Night in Newcastle a few years ago, they were great, the only problem was that most of the audience thought they were there to see Deep Purple and started heckling. This being Newcastle, it would have turned into a full-scale riot, but for Candice, who was brilliant, I have the utmost respect for the lady who can handle a crowd of pissed old Geordie farts who think they're there for a totally different band......

Most bands don't come to Newcastle because we're horrible. My friend told Joe Satriani to "get the fuck out of the way" ( he was apparently standing in the street outside the City Hall, twiddling his guitar, when my mate walked by; Joe got in the way of one seriously annoyed bloke who'd just been dumped, lol....he hasn't been back here since ), Dave Lee Roth was deliberately tripped over on the dancefloor, and the Wildhearts moved away

As far as I know "bratwurst" and "schnitzel" are also commonly known in the English language. At least online-translators give you the exact same word, when you are searching for them.

I remember a Carpathian Forest gig on Wacken (dunno the year, can't be arsed to look it up either). The 'singer' entered the stage, belched out a couple verses, and then started to fucking vomit all over the stage  The dude still tried doing what he was supposed to, but waves of puke just kept coming .. He left the stage for a while, came back, vomited I believe just one more time and then finally managed to hold the rest (if there was a rest) down and finished the set. Quite funny all in all. And quite bad as well.

I remember that one, too, was standing on the other stage waiting for Masterplan while Carpathian Forest played.

Mikael Akerfeldt is a pretty hilarious frontman, I think everyone who's been at an Opeth gig would have something from that evening to share in this thread!

- Presenting Godhead's Lament: "This song is pretty old, and some of you may don't know it. Well, who gives a fuck?"

- Presenting The Lotus Eater: "We have a new album out, called Watershed. We're gonna play a new song. If you like this song, it's very good for you, it means you have good tastes in music. If you don't like it... (compassionate) go buy yourselves a hot dog, and listen to Scooter..."

- *Starts playing the riff of Blackwater Park, and the whole audience went singing that song*
"Will you come to see us again after tonight?"
"YEAH!"
"... Then maybe you will be lucky, next time!"
(Anyway, the one they played next was Demon of the Fall )

- Someone from the crowd shouted: "I love your mustache!!!"
Mikael appeared shocked and answered: "My wife loves it, she won't let me shave it off because she says I'm ugly without them..." Then he walked down on the stage and when he came back to the mic he shouted: "DO YOU LOVE THE PUSSY?"
Of course everyone went "YEAAAAHHH!!!!"
So he went again, perfectly calm: "Fuck yeah." which he started growling after a while.
"You can't tease us, at this point in a tour we're all very horny... so... well, yeah, wait, there'll be no more information, actually this was too much informations..."
*The audience screams other near-porn stuff*
"Guys! Let's stop talking about pussy. I won't be able to concentrate on our profund lyrics. And instead of them I would sing 'pussy pussy pussy... uh... pussy pussy.. uh'... Well, guys, let's go back to being gentlemen..."

And there were some funny moments at the Anathema headliner gig in Rome I attended last year too.

- Vincent simply presented Lost Control with a powerful burp, and at the end of the song he went to the mic and started growling violently!
Everybody was kind of , and soon after he just said "Sorry, had to take a little death metal relax..."

- And after playing Sleepless: "You know, the bass is a little tired now, so we're gonna put him to sleep, hoping he can rest for a while... and in case you doubt, yes, we're all insane..."

- I remember my first Jethro Tull show, where everybody had its seat. I had read that most of Tull gigs were seated, but that on the finale, when Locomotive Breath was played, everybody would stand up and run to the stage.
I eagerly awaited this moment, but when Locomotive Breath came, NOBODY did stand up! I was kind of disappointed. I waited something like 20-30 seconds, and then I just shouted "OH, COME ON!!!" and ran to the stage in front of Ian Anderson who was playing his flute.
Immediatly the whole crowd followed me, and Mr. Anderson graced me with a wink and one of his funny faces. Never gonna forget that!

- Last but not least, I attended a gig of a good italian band called Klimt 1918 (if you like shoegaze fused with first U2, you should give them a try), and after the fourth song, the vocalist said: "Please can I have some volume on my monitor? Can't hear anything..."
Soon after, the bass player: "Hey, where's my volume, everything's gone here..."
And the guitar player: "My acoustic's gone too!"
And a few seconds later, the lights of the whole place went down :P
The gig was cancelled :P
"Well, I was about to announce the next song, but I think we'll have to skip it...
Yeah, because we have a pretty sad song here, and you all seem so happy to me...!"

At a HammerFall + Sabaton concert:

When Sabaton was playing, the singer said that they got a condom thrown on stage, and a few minutes later the same happened.

At the time that HammerFall was playing, the singer introduced the other bandmembers, and when introducing the drummer he said: Come on Anders, wave to the public! And the guy did it quickly.

While announcing the next song, Nevermore´s Warrel Dane suddenly stares at a guy standing right in front of him and shouts: "GEEZ, this guy is wearing a Backstreet Boys shirt! HE IS THE ENEMY! And here comes ENEMIES OF REALITY!!"

Probably when Jocke of Sabaton came on stage during the show of their support act, the Grailknights. Jocke was dressed in see-through pantyhose (no undies), a cape and a skull mask, imitating the "villain" the Grailknights usually face on stage (Dr. Skull). Except Dr. Skull usually wears clothes that don't show his penis to everyone.

In fact, there's a picture right here.

(Not to forget the rest of the crew who dressed up nicely as well.)

well I wasn't there, but it's on their video - Skid Row had this great idea to get a fuck-off huuuuge guy to stage dive. Only, the poor fuckers in the crowd went "fuck this shit I ain't having this fatso land on me" and moved out the way so he landed smack on his face on the floor. And just lay there.......

In March 2004, I went to see George Lynch play at a club in Seattle. He had two opening bands. The first was a local band called Braindead. The singer came out in a penis costume and sang the whole show that way. Seriously.

Towards the end of their set, they threw things into the audience which I later discovered were condoms

Not necessarily funny, but it made me smile. At my first Edguy show in 2005, Tobi was making the audience sing various things. One song he made us hum instead of sing lines. I couldn't figure out what it sounded so familiar. Afterward he announced that we all just hummed the German National Anthem :)

During Maiden's gig in 2004 in Sao Paulo, during a pause between songs, Bruce started to joke with the audience about the previous night's gig in Rio de Janeiro being better than that one (he was told that Sao Paulo and Rio are old rivals)... Anyway he started to say things like: "Sao Paulo.. last night, Rio de Janeiro was fucking crazy... haha"... the audience started to scream out loud and he goes with something like "I wonder if you can scream more than them.." and then some crazy guy came running behind him and hugged him.. for a moment he got quite scared, but then, before the security staff kicked the guy out he stage dived into the audience... and Bruce said: "Heyyy.. are you from Rio de Janeiro?" ...
You're going to hell. But not the cool one, that's where I'll go.
