Well, I guess that the non germans like me can only get that song after the vinyl release of NIME at the end of this year/begining of the next one :(
And one more thing I want to ask - how does this song will blend it's sound with the original NIME version, since it will most probably have the ATGTSAT sound?
That's sad cause I would like to have all the songs from that session on the original NIME CD and it's massive sound... the 2012 remixed version's are cinematic, epic and cool, but I just want to have the song on both versions :D
Anyway, a new song is always cool

Thanks, mate, but I think I'll buy it together with the new NIME vinyl release :)

Thanks, man!!! God bless you!!
WOW, if I have to be honest this is such a fine and epic song... Can't believe they thought of it as a bonus track... can't stop listening to it. The pre-chorus and chorus are so emotional... :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

I gotta say, some riffs in this song belong to the heaviest stuff Blind Guardian ever released. Which is great!
Nobody will ever let you know
When you ask the reasons why,
They just tell you that you're on your own,
Fill your head all full of lies

The pre-chorus is one of the most frisson-inducing things they've ever released.

But if you ask me you already hear the style of ATITM. Some parts remind me on Another stranger me (high notes) and Otherlands (straightness, first solo) but also Doom (roughness, solo in the end of the song)
But i like it. It has some many twists in speed and melody.
And your opinions?

Really enjoyed it, very much an slice of classic era Blind Guardian that I didn't expect.

Can anyone here clarify when and why this track was written and excluded from the album? I translated the original Hansi statement from the German text but its rough and patchy to understand in English. Does he mean that "tides of war" was supposed to fit in the Nightfall in Middle Earth tracklisting between "Nightfall" and "Curse of Feanor"? That it was written that way before hand? Will it be that way on the upcoming re-release of Nightfall?

Yeah it is on the CD and vinyl re-releases. Like Harvest of Sorrow (ATTWS single bonus track) and Doom, which was written during Nightfall production but was not finished like The Tides of war
Hansi once said that they had planned an EP after release of NIME (i guess they left it out because of time issues) and that there were some songs left.
The Tides Of war is about the story of Feanor and the Noldors after the clan murder of Alqualonde and what happend after.
Hansi Kürsch wrote: Erzählt wird die Geschichte Feanors und der Noldor nach dem Sippenmord von Alqualonde und den Ereignissen danach – die Geeks werden wissen, was ich meine."

No official ones, but I just did a transcription. Except for some words I couldn't make out this should be pretty accurate:

Call(?) the wind, I hail thee
We sail on through the storm
There's fire in my mind, fire in my mind,
Fire in my mind, fire in my mind

There's no escape
And there's no return
The blood is ?? behind us
It's well out of sight

Tears you might be crying
But it's over now
For a high cost we come
So just keep your hate alive

The Tides of War (the tides of war)
We've come to face it in these lands
We've come to face it in these lands
The Curse of Feänor

No sorrow, no loss I count for what's behind
And follow, don't turn your back and let them whine
The grief is real, the pain I feel
Is not what I've been longing for
They shall be free, they'll be released
They can't get over the sea

They were following in vain
Burning vessels, burning hope
Needless baggage on the road
Let them curse me, let them blame
They may have faced their journey's end

Boats at distant shore they burn
The wind still carries smoke
In Araman we've seen Teleri's work on fire
Across the ice of ???
To take revenge, ashamed
Betrayed by the insane Feänor

You've come too far, you've come to fail
Feänor
All done in vain, by the oath
You delivered our doom

The Tides of War (the tides of war)
We've come to face it in these lands
We've come to face it in these lands
The Curse of Feänor

Boats at distant shore they burn
The wind still carries smoke
In Araman we've seen Teleri's work on fire
Across the ice of ???
To take revenge, ashamed
Betrayed by the insane Feänor

We've come too far, we've come to fail
Feänor
Yet we have reached the promised land
of Feänor

The Tides of War (the tides of war)
We've come to face it in these lands
We've come to face it in these lands
The Curse of Feänor

ice or flame, of course. Thanks, I was wondering whether it was ice a flame or of something lame, but the obvious thing never crossed my mind :D

And may I just take a moment at this point to mention how amazing the part from They were vollowing in vain up to the insane Feänor is?

I can totally agree - such a great flow and epic building up to the great chorus :!: Every time the part "Boats at distant shore they burn..." starts, I feel like riding to a great battle - can't believe how catchy this moment is  :D

Hard to make some of those things out, but here are the differences I hear:

There's no escape
And there's no return
The blood it's (?) behind us [(?) sounds kind of like "both" to me. I think it's a "b" word.]
It's the (?) of sight [Actually sounds like "It's the world I've (signed?)" to me, even though that doesn't make a whole lot of sense.]

No sorrow, no loss I count the ones behind [This one I'm sure of.]
Can't follow, don't turn your back and let them whine
The grief is real, the pain I feel
It's not what I've been longing for
They shall be free, they'll be released
They can't get over the sea

Boats at distant shore they burn
The wind still carries smoke
In Araman we've seen Teleri's work on fire
Across the ice, a flame Pretty sure of this one as well.
To take revenge, ashamed
Betrayed by the insane Feänor

Boats at distant shore they burn

With careful navigation and translation, I managed to order this magazine off the German website yesterday.
I'm not sure how, but it was like 10 bucks total...

Has anyone from the US done the same? I'm assuming there's gonna be a big ole shipping charge tacked on at some point?

Wasn't the shipping charge included in the price? At least, it's this way it works on sites like Amazon. Also, there's not an importing charge, because books and magazines are free from it, but I guess it depends on each country's laws.

In this case the bill breakdown only had the price for the magazine, and the tax. No shipping was shown. It arrived though, no additional charges. Only took around 10 days. I'm a little surprised, lol. I don't see how that could be financial feasible. Pretty cool. Now I've got a German magazine that I can't read :D

About the song, I like it. It's definitely got some modern BG style in it. Pieces of it sound like they could belong on NiME, but mostly just the the first 20 seconds IMO.
I can definitely hear "Doom" near the end like Traveller in Time said. Some of the vocal layering and high pitch parts remind me of stuff off ATITM. I hear "Distant Memories" briefly at around 2:37.

I do wonder how much of it remained from it's original form. The credits show Siepen/Stauch/Olbrich/Kursch.

They used the drums recording from Thomen, but they also have a drum recording by Frederik, same with the bass. They used the recording played by Holzwarth but also made a new recording with Barend.
