Well on the one hand I think it's awesome to have Imaginations Throuh The Looking Glass on CD and I'm psyched for the extended version of The Quest For Tanelorn, but on the other hand I think it's not cool that the bonustracks from the remasteres are missing and that there are two versions of NIME. Especially because the second one is just the same album without the interludes and a new version of Blood Tears. Maybe they should have replaced this by some bootlegs or some bonustracks from the singles. And it's a pity that there won't be a remix of A Twist In The Myth. But I guess that has something to do with the labels. But the band hasn't confirmed that this is the actual content. But I guess I'll buy it anyway.

I'm overall with you there. I don't think that there is as much there to make it worthwhile the price at which this thing will probably come...

I had the same thoughts. I hoped for something more spectacular, although those remixes can be quite nice. On the other side most of albums were remixed or remastered not so long ago. So i doubt there is much difference. A pity that there is no surprise song (but i remembered Hansi once saying in an interview that they don't have much unused songs. Just parts, no full songs.)

They have those 2 tracks from Nime era, could have added them on one of the two Nime versions that's in there :P. Of course that needed maybe much work as they were unfinished.

My thought exactly.

Why they didn't remixed Tokyo Tales?

PS: Once again the cover sucks. How I miss Andreas Marschall illustrations in BG album covers.

Are you talking about the EP they wanted to release after NIME ?
But i thought Harvest of Sorrow was one song of those two, or not?

EDIT: I just checked an interview with Marcus from these days. You are right, there were two songs besides Harvest of sorrow, but marcus said they were too weak.

The best things about the box are the name, the Coburg show on CD (both COMPLETE concerts would've been awesome!) and the bonus stuff disc.
I'm torn, I love BG more than anything, so I just MUST have it, but about 125 € for stuff I already have...AAAAAH!

BTW, why is Snakes of Destruction not included? :D

EDIT: @gergor: ah i got it. it is 99 british pound and no US dollar, my fault ;)

At Amzon.de it was listed with 89€, but now 181€..... the link with the details says 99 british pound (approx. 124 €)
I guess nothing is set, yet

@wade-web: it is not officially revealed, but i guess it will be the final cover:

And i guess the idea of this box was again born at Virgin/EMI.
If they don't release every 5(?) years stuff of Blind Guardian they could lose their rights on it, which will be then at Nuclear Blast. or Am i wrong?
This could explain The Remastered Series (2007) and now the "A Traveler's Guide to Space and Time" box(2013).

Or what do you think?

I thought the Memories of a Time to Come discs were pretty good. Aside from the rerecordings, there was a whole bunch of remixed songs I liked better because of the different mix/master (overall, it sounded clearer and had a bit more punch in most of the instruments/vocals when compared to the originals). The drums on some songs could've used a bit more volume though (especially on Bright Eyes). But still, if the remixes in this box get the same care I am really buying this!

But then I have this question: what the hell is the difference between a Remix and remaster and just a remix? If you remix stuff, don't you have to (re)master it too? I mean, if you have a new mix, it will need mastering too right? And another question: why two NiME cd's? The album is awesome, but I wonder how much the versions will differ (aside from the exclusion of all the storytelling tracks and the special Blood Tears version).

I've heard of people, who dwell in eternal darkness, as they don't like the interludes on NIME and always skipped them or even burnt a copy of NIME without them...

Hehehe... well, I can't say I always listen to it... most of the times, I do skip it. But I think it's interesting, and is into the whole thing that the album is all about... it was a little strange for me to see the tracklist without it. Tracks like "The Minstrel", "Battle of Sudden Flame", "The Dark Elf" and "Out on the Water" are absolutely epic. I can't imagine NiME without it!!!

Here is a link about the box, that my friend put on the Brasil site:

Am I the only one who thinks that the name of the box is like a fantasy / medieval twinsibling to The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy?

I gotta say, the box doesn't seem all that special, but the new mixes could be very interesting, as I liked MoaTtC too. I most probably buy the box anyway because price isn't an issue and I wan't to collect BG releases. Even if they are essentialy just Virgin / EMI ripping off what they can from a band they've lost, but hey, I really can't harm the band buy buying their music even if it's the n.th re-re-release, right?

One should be
CD 14 - Nightfall in Middle Earth (special)
and the other
CD 15 - An extraordinary Tale includes unreleased curiosities

And the third (big one with the guy and the sword) is an art print.

At NB it is listed for the price of 102 Euro. So not really expensive for 15 CDs!

here is some info (sadly just in german):

Yes, but Lemmy explicitly said that this was the Record Company trying to rob the fans and that the band had nothig to do with it and told even the msot die-hard colelctors not to buy that shit for that price.

Wow, judging from my laptop's crappy speakers I really like the new versions of battlefield and under the ice. The outros of journey and requiem are cool, too. So that's what Hansi mentionend in one of the interviews. I wonder why they did not use them for the original albums.
But I'm not so sure about the new sound of theatre of pain. Maybe it's because it's new and I'm not used to it, but I almost can't hear the orchestral parts. But I guess this will change when I listen to it with a better sound system.
I don't think I will regret buying this thing. Does anybody know if they've included all the lyrics?

Just have no idea what to say right now..........Battlefield is just....come on guys, it sounds like an acoustic version....Just want to cry, but not from happiness......

Anyway...I really have to admit that the outro of SFMR is really awesome and I really like the sound of Blood Tears and Theatre of Pain :)

I'm a little confused by the new versions, because I like the original version. I hope it will be good. :D

yeah, maybe that's the main problem with me too, I'm really addicted to the old versions, but I have to admit that before 2 minutes I didn't liket the new Battlefield(from my previous post)... but somehow I think I started like it right now...
i'm really curious to hear the whole box
I have to admit that I'm really happy about the clear sound and the epic atmosphere in Blood Tears :)

Battlefield sounds fine. It sounds more balanced, audio-wise. The acoustic part was startling, if not welcome - it's only in the intro anyway, and I'm guessing it was already in the mix but drowned out before the remix.

I also get the vibe they're tweaking Battlefield to be more of a live song; during the chorus you'll notice some of the vocal layering is removed during the call-and-answer parts

"There on the battlefield he stands"
"Down on the battlefield he's lost" (this part now sounding far more solo-Hansi)

and a lot of the verses feature a very prominent lower-octave Hansi.

Imo, more than likely setting it up to the traditional dynamic of the audience covering certain parts and Hansi choosing certain higher parts. We've never had a Battlefield live version, so I am just assuming and such.

Oh. My. God.
Those samples are just amazing.

Yeah, because we have a pretty sad song here, and you all seem so happy to me...!"

wow they really spend some hard work into it, it seems.
Although i liked the old mix of IFTOS, the new one is interesting.
Battlefield wins a lot. And replacing these computer instruments with real(?) or better(?) ones is really worth to buy the box.
All my doubts are gone :D
Sorry about my bad english, but the good one is on vacation!

The good think is that the songs sounds somehow really heavier for me :)
For example, The drums on Under The Ice are really heavy ... :D

I got a bit more sceptical, to be honest. Sure, the new versions sound a lot more differenciated and clearer - incredibly so. You get to hear much more nuances, you get to hear the guitars apart from each other, you get way deeper into the song, which is something I usually really love to do. But especially concerning the older stuff I just can't see them without this old mixing style from that turn of decade. And I'm really not sure if I'm ready to spend a hundred Euros just for analysis. Somehow, I don't think so.

Yeah, my feelings are somewhat similar about this. The older stuff is the older stuff, and its not exactly nostalgia, but more that I've gotten used to it all these years. However, extra material is never bad (although it might have adverse effects on the band's image for some people), you either like it and listen to it or just ignore it and go back to the old ones. Myself, I'm not so sure, these new versions need to prove themselves in time if any real comparison can be done here.

I support their intention to mix songs in a notably different way than on albums. Now we will be able to hear things that were hidden previously. I think I am not the one who wants songs to sound always in the same way just because that is how they were made originally and because I am used to this sound. The changed versions can revive my interest to studying BG music and are likely to give me new and fresh emotions while I listen to them.

Thank you, Bards, for this box set!
Just keep in mind, this world is sacred.

For me, I guess it is the same as with MoaTtC. I think I am going to prefer some of the new mixes and prefer some of the old ones. I really like that they are doing this, as I generally dislike the mixes of some of the older albums. Some songs on MoaTtC really exposed some awesome details and subtle tones that were a bit drowned in the old mixes. And based on the YT video, they will not forget the drums this time!

I am really thinking about ordering this, as I do not have all BG albums yet and always like box sets. If my budget allows it, I will definately order it in the coming month. :D
