Serious question regarding Valhalla singalong part!

#1 Post by Freak666 » 06 Oct 2010 07:44

The official lyrics say:

"Why've you ever forgotten me"

But in concerts the crowd always seems to sing:

"Why you've ever forgotten me"

Also in this thread I see both ones: viewtopic.php?f=16&t=32975
So what is right?

"So what is right?"
nah the official lyrics cant be right... i mean the band wrote them but the crowd sings different words... so them, not being the writers of the song, are correct /sarcasm

In all Valhalla videos I've seen, Hansi clearly sings: "Why've you ever forgotten me"
And Hansi is always right. No exceptions. 8)

But you are free to sing whatever you want of course.
What started in the underworld,
It should be finished here and now.

"Why've you ever forgotten me" seems not to be proper english to me somehow.

"why have you ever forgotten me?"
"why did you ever forget me?"
*"why you have ever forgotten me?"

I've never really seen the contraction "why've" but besides that I don't see anything wrong with it

If you google for "why've" you won't find many hits besides of Valhalla lyrics. So I guess it's a BG creation.

Yeah, back when Hansi wrote those lyrics, his english was a lot worse than it is today (you might be able to find many more english mistakes in his earlier lyrics)

He still says "I've to" which is an odd place for that contraction.
'Nowhere has this renunciation of man's transience been more joyous or uplifting than in the medium of airport carpets.'
