New album title

#1 Post by Wicked Child » 24 Jul 2009 13:16

Just read an interview with Hansi at SolidRock in which Hansi speaks about possible names for the new album (to be released in the end of 2010).

Eventhough he says it may change to a whole different direction, I would like to see what reaction would find these two possible titles, if the album was released today.

According to the interview:
Hansi wrote:I’m thinking about possible titles at the moment. The first thing coming into my mind, because it’s such an intense album, would be something like “Punishment Coming” or “A Storm To Come”
Let polemic begins...

How about a third option? they both kind of.. suck?
Punishment Coming isn't too much of a Guardian title

Punishment Coming makes me think of many things, and none of them involve Blind Guardian

who do they want to punish, I wonder? maybe it's supposed to be a punishment for all who disliked ATITM or said Hansi sounds crap live? I mean... an album as a punishment... should we be worried?

About the poll choices, it involves only titles considered by Hansi himself. And, unfortunately, there are only these two. It doesn't prevent you from giving suggestions, though.

I agree. Though, I fully trust Hansi on creating good album titles, I must say that I really like "A Storm To Come". :D

As for the Punishment thing, I prefer to see it as something that first came to Hansi's mind when trying to give the interviewer a teaser of what is the "catch" of the new album, and not a title itself. Well, at least I hope so... :)

I think that "A Storm to Come" is a great title for a BG album.

Now, allow me to address another thing Hansi said on that interview: "We are discussing things like that at the moment because “And Then There Was Silence” could be a very attractive song to be played by an orchestra and probably have some voices on it as well."

FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, PLEASE TO THIS! :D

I prefer "A Storm to Come" :D

Maybe they thought of "Punishment coming" sounds like Punishment Divine (which was a very nice song by the way)??
Or they will have a good song in the album with that title? But, in any case, it doesn't sound nice.

About playing ATTWS with an orchestra.. I agree that this would be a blast

Hmm, I'm kinda meh on both of these. They both seem somewhat trite, but Punishment Coming is way too cheesy and stereotypically metal, so I'll go with A Storm to Come. I hope they think of new titles, but the music's the important part anyway, so it's not that big of a deal.

On the subject of ATTWS with an orchestra, I've said before that it should be done (I think in the Sacred topic as a suggestion of what they could put on a single). Personally, I think they should have done with actual instruments at first, instead of keyboard samples.

GOD YES on ATTWS with Orchestra. For that matter I want to hear Sacred and all of NIME with orchestra as well, even a small chamber orchestra like the Orchestra of Eternity on Pain of Salvation's BE.

Must be a joke, those titles are terrible! I'd expect such crummy english titles from some obscure japanese metal band but not Blind Guardian! Blind Guardian needs to 1up ATITM, Hansi is a god with lyrics which practically stand their own as poetry, I'm sure he or the band come up with something badass down the line. :)

But it seems like they're looking for something that emphasizes imminent doom. Heh, somebody call Jon Shaffer, that guys been doing imminent doom all his life!

I agree that these titles suck... A Storm to come is aa bit better, but I'd mix it up with Van Canto :D

Yep, exactly my thoughts, Dent.

ATTWS with orchestra would be heaven!

Reminds me of Into the Storm and Punishment Divine. Is Hansi so fond of storms and punishments lately or is it the same as with A Day at the Races? A Storm to Come would be ok, but there are plenty of titles with "storm" already. Punisment Coming is just awkward.

And I join a happy chorus saluting orchestral version of ATTWS :)

Perhaps something to the effect of:

Something Wicked This Way Comes . . . Again! (It Forgot Its Lunch)

I can't flee
Inner pain caused insanity
It's deep within
The fear and the hunger
Enslaved and denied

Last time the choice was between "Borderline Myth" and "A Twist in the Myth", and the choice fell on the far better title. Now I have to agree that both titles are meh (especially because they both remind of other song titles by them), with "A Storm to Come" being a bit less meh than the other.

Btw, link to the interview?

Should be A Day at the Races

Why did Magnus rule this out?

I consider the classic version of “Theatre Of Pain” as one of the best Blind Guardian songs ever.
I could go the rest of my life never hearing any version of that song ever again, and I would be just fine with it.

If it must be one of those two, I would say "A Storm To Come", because "Punishment Coming" is plain awful. "A Storm To Come" is not perfect, I would say it's OK, but definitely it's way better than the other option.

I think that "a storm is coming" is a lot better than the other choice.... I hope this album be as good as the the others... I'm really looking forward to see it releashed....
