The improved BG ballad poll

#1 Post by jophelerks » 07 Jul 2009 15:35

Okay, I finally added the ones people were complaining about. Yes, even Black Chamber, though I honestly don't know who would choose it. My vote still goes to The Bard's Song-In the Forest. Sorry about the revoting crap guys but at least now everyone should be able to vote honestly.

Still Bard's Song :mrgreen:
"There's a time when a man needs to fight and a time when he needs to accept that his destiny's lost, the ship has sailed and that only a fool will continue. The truth is I've always been a fool"
~~~~~~~~~~~~
A slight call afar is tempting me, like a whisper sweet or an awful scream; I cannot ignore what I've always been, I'm leaving again - one last time? in my little kingdom I can be what I really wanted to be... The wanderer
Wait wait wait.
Maiden and the Minstrel Knight? A ballad?
Everybody's still going to vote The Bard's Song. I'm voting The Eldar.
I thought so. Yeah, partway through the electric guitar comes in and it goes a little heavier, but I'd still call it a ballad. What would you call it?
Haaarvest... of sorrow.
Though the towers of the city are denied to we men of clay
still we know we shall scale the heights some day.
Frightened in the silence -
frightened, but thinking very hard,
let us make computations of the stars.
The maiden and the minstrel knight - definitively (up to now) the zenith of Blind Guardians songwriting abilities - so beautiful, playful melodies, so surprising, so emotional. Goosebump song.
if you want a fair game you need to remove the bards song from the list! :lol: My favorite one, excluding the bard song, is Harvest of sorrow i guess
Now I'm riding through the air
Going to where no one dares
On the way I cross the line forevermore.
For once in life, I do not care
Nothing matters, now I dare
On the ride I'll cross the line
Forever to be free
as i stated in the other topic, the bard's song is quite overrated in studio form. actually easilly the most boring ballad from BG. but the live version is what makes it great, everybody singing along in peace and love..
not really, i just think it is overrated due to the live magic that covers up the not so interestingness of thesong itself.
Or rather that there is more to a song than just simply shouting a long live.
lol, the only stuff I bash is some of the more badly done thrash back from BoF/FtB era, and my all-time least favorite BG song, Precious Jerusalem. *shudders* Not too boring, sure, but...everything about it sucks, imo.
btw, i actually kind of like the last candle. *shrugs* eh, at least we're both BG fans, right?
Bashing Precious Jerusalem? :shock: You crazy, man! My least favorite song is probably Damned for All Time. It's just not good.
Oh, and The Last Candle is the best song off Tales in my opinion. The chorus is just so awesome and catchy! The most overrated song from that album is, of corpse, Welcome to Dying. It's decent, and not the worst on the album (that would be Altair 4, or maybe Tommyknockers) but it doesn't deserve all plays it gets at concerts. Lord of the Rings is the second most overrated. It's their first and worst ballad in my opinion, and while it's good, I think that it to gets too much preference over better songs in their catalog. So many people like the MORDOR! part, but I just find it overly harsh and jarring, and interrupts the flow of the ballad for me.
'Nowhere has this renunciation of man's transience been more joyous or uplifting than in the medium of airport carpets.'
i prefer the studio version of the bard's song; i don't even need it to be played on each and every show...
EDIT: i'd rather hear "the hobbit" more often
Wow, I don't check back for a couple weeks and I return to find people bashing The Bard's Song (WHAT) and Precious Jerusalem (my fourth favorite song off ANatO). Just because YOU think The Bard's Song is boring doesn't mean it necessarily is or that you're somehow right where the rest of us are wrong. The Bard's Song was the first Blind Guardian song I ever heard, and to this day, it is still one of the best.
Celuden: And in the same vein, just because YOU think it's awesome doesn't mean it necessarily is. ;)
As for the topic, I voted for The Eldar. It's just so damn emotional and melancholic in all its simplicity, and Hansi's delivery is at its best.
And The Lord said unto John: 'Come forth and receive eternal life'.
But John came fifth, and won a toaster.
Black Chamber is great on The Forgotten Tales, I like it a lot :P
But my fave ballad is still TMATMK
I don´t get why so many people do not like The Last Candle, it isn´t that bad...at least live it´s a good song ("guardian, guardian, guardian of the blind...yaaaaaaah ahahaaahahaaaaaa!" :twisted: )
The Lights are up,
Now let the play begin!
Wow, The Maiden and the Minstrel Knight has officially surpassed In the Forest. :shock: Someone remind me what planet we're on again? Not that I object...but still...can't help but be a little surprised that the magical Blind Guardian classic is beaten by a relatively little-known song from ANATO. Very interesting...
But I voted Harvest of Sorrow. I know the story that's behind it, and it's so incredibly sad. It's just done really really well...
Anybody ever heard of the term "Power Ballad" before? That might suite TMatMK pretty well...
Like all of other message board members, I like all of these songs, but I voted for The Bard's Song - In The Forest, because it's one of the songs that turns you in a Blind Guardian fan, one of the songs that takes you on the adventure with the Bards. :)
The Eldar would be my second choice.
Well, after listening to Harvest of Sorrow today, I realized it's superior. And now it's winning by quite a comfortable margin. :D
