What are your "signs" ?

#1 Post by Sarah » 28 Jun 2009 19:43

Yupp.
I just watched "he's just not that into you", which is actually quite A good movie with no sparkling vampires, and thought for the first time about transfering this question, in my head sincever i discovered the existence of boys and awkwardness, to the larger population of wisdom and emotional knoledge who inhabitates this forum.

How do you spot/read/interpret which signs from the potential significant other (or even your occasionnal squeeze) to assume that they like you ?

Help is always appreciated. Terima Kasih

if someone considers kissing you...be sure he or she watches your lips frequently

i mostly try to notice body language, expression and energy when looking out for someone for a long time relation

..but when without, i mostly watch body language and ease of manipulation. flirting is great, and i do it all the time, but since i have a gf i only flirt for the flirting, not to get any result.

for me it does :P seriously, there's nothing an attractive girl can do to make me focus more on them like blushing. IMHO it's one of the cutest things know to man. :P

I've found myself in positions where I was dead sure that signs were present and intended for me, when the person in question was not interested in that way at all..
I asked myself then, why the hell give those signs? It is confusing as hell.
I decided to disregard any signs untill they are clear messages eg. a person saying she loves me or trying to kiss me. Or the other way around till a person tells me to get lost or shove it where the sun don't shine.

But even then, misinterpretation lurks around the corner. I know I'm not always the clearest with signalling, so a long time ago already I decided to tell people honestly what I feel and think. But that sometimes leads to people seeing only things within a certain frame, even when I do or say things without any underlaying reason.

A universal rulebook for signalling within interpersonal relations could be a solution, but then again, it won't work if not everybody is aware of those rules.

BTW: I want to make clear to the various (and i fear they have become plentiful) people that I've had such misunderstandings with (and not only related to love but in general) that this is no personal "attaque". Just my own personal findings without any further entanglements.

mostly i stare into their eyes, hold their gaze and smile, their response can tell me a lot. but then again, lately i haven't had the leisure time to find out what that specific 'a lot' is exactly, so i may be off a bit. :P

but when i'm really interested in someone and they seem like someone i want to get serious with, i outright ask them if they're available and want to get into it.

I always spot those signs a good time afterwards. Mostly when there's not much to do anymore.

ditto!

With guys I flirt very much intuitively, actually. Not really sure what my signs exactly are. Probably showing interest (more than usual), listening intensely, touching ones arm, stuff like that, although I also do that if I "just" like someone, with no romantic or sexual interest. Ow, and I'll probably make sexual comments, try to find out if the person is available and teh like: that is probably the real sign.

With girls I always feel extremely awkward, and my flirting is kind of clumsy. I do the same stuff as with guys, but I'm way more conscious of it, so I tend to overdo it a little (or a lot). Cute girls just make me nervous.

True, but when there is sexual/romantic interest involved, it is different. Sex is one of my favourite topics to talk about, especially with people like you guys, where I can make the worst kind of bad sex comments, only to be topped by your even worse ones. And still, also serious conversation about sex is possible.
When there is interest involved, it will be more flirtatious in nature, more showing how interesting I am, and how I would like to be in bed with that person. Saying that I would like to make babies with you doesn't count in that way ;)

For me the first step mostly consists of finding out whether the guy I'm interested in is gay or bisexual. (And the answer to that question is often easily obtained if I tell them that I am gay.)

After that it often gets confusing with flirting and whatnot, and I can't say I understand a lot of it. I generally tend to pay more attention to general behaviour (verbal hints, etc., but also e.g. sticking to me a lot in a place where there are various groups to choose from, such as a festival), and less to the more vague body language stuff, though (and luckily that's what guys are better with, compared to girls, anyway).
You charge each other for the time and breath it takes to say 'good morning',
But the truth is slowly dawning -- things are getting out of hand,
We all pursue our shattered dreams along the roads to our own ruin --
Watch our empires sink and wash away like castles made of sand.
And so cast off the lies that are your lives and find the truth within.

I assume that they don't.
I also don't flirt and never tried to hit on anybody.
One exception: I once told a girl I wanted to sleep with her, which worked.
