What're you people doing this summer?

#1 Post by Curufin » 09 Mar 2009 09:59

Looks like I'll be taking another trip to Yurup this summer, so I'd like to know if any of you have any heersching plans that I can work into my trip!

Leaving on June 6 for England, where I'll spend a week or two with my father going around Yorkshire and the Crafnant Valley in Wales (I have no idea where this is), and after that I think I want to hit Dublin, Belfast, Edinburgh and Glasgow. From there I'm thinking I'll go to Iceland and the Faroe Islands (to complete my tour of Scandinavia).

After that I'd like to spend a while in some countries or areas I haven't been to yet. This includes (in no particular order):

Portugal
Spain
Southern France
Anything south of Hamburg in Germany
Switzerland
Italy
Austria
Greece
And pretty much all of the Eastern European countries

I'm considering the Metalway Festival in Zaragoza, Spain and the Masters of Rock festival in Vizovice, Czech Republic since BG is playing and the rest of the lineup has a good amount of bands I'd like to see as well. Are any of you planning on going to these (or are there any other notable fests with great lineups not including BG)?

I'm pretty open to suggestions, and I'm not opposed to going somewhere I've been before if it means heersching with you lot. I'm looking into Eurail passes to see how feasible that would be as well.

So where are we partying this summer, y'all?

"I know what you're doing this summer"

To make to obvious offer: If you want to visit Regensburg, or Landshut or the area around here, I'd be happy to host you for a night or two and offer some semi-guided tours.
Come to Summer Breeze.

I concur!

Besides the Summer Breeze, I plan to spend my holidays in Hohenkirchen (near Jever, North Sea) for a week or two. And at the end of June there is a big medieval festival in Dortmund, which usually is the epitome of fun.

i'll work on my house.. since there is ALWAYS something to do on/in a house
i'll spend some good times with my daughter
i'll get 2 weeks of vacations.. which will be more than welcome..
I might catch up some shows.. don't know

and i'll try to organize some parties at home.. you know.. BBQ, pool, beer...

Not much festivals (only Keltisch Midzomerfestival as it looks like now), but hoping to go on a holiday in the summer. (Want to go to Ireland, but still have to see if that is going to work out and if I can find someone to go with.)
You charge each other for the time and breath it takes to say 'good morning',
But the truth is slowly dawning -- things are getting out of hand,
We all pursue our shattered dreams along the roads to our own ruin --
Watch our empires sink and wash away like castles made of sand.
And so cast off the lies that are your lives and find the truth within.

I do want to visit parts of Bavaria, so it's very likely that I'll take you up on that offer. The Summer Breeze festival looks absolutely amazing, but I'm skeptical about having the finances to be able to be in Europe from early June through mid-August. I would honestly push the start of my trip back in order to be able to go to Summer Breeze, but the beginning of the trip is aligned with my father's trip to England, so that's not really an option. If I do somehow get the money, I would probably make that my end-of-the-trip festival, like Wacken was last time.

Alright, then Masters of Rock is definitely on my list. It has the best lineup for me out of all the fests BG has announced, and it's in a country I would love to visit. Is there a group plan for this (like camping together), or is everyone getting hotel/hostel rooms?

Hmm, a medieval festival does sound like a good time, but I don't think I'll be heading that far north on this trip... you should come to Masters of Rock! ;)

I'm planning to go to Ireland probably in the later part of June, but I'll probably be couchsurfing throughout my trip. I'm definitely up to meet and have some authentic barley wines and wander the Irish countryside, though!

Awesome, thanks for the offer Ferdi (Furrdee). Not sure if I'll be hitting the Heerschland on this trip, but if I do I'll be sure to let you know to start stocking the Grolsch ;)
Beren Ercharmion wrote:I won't be on any festivals this summer, but if you're in Munich and need a place to sleep drop me an email.
Excellent, I do plan on visiting Munich during this trip. I'll let you know my plans once they become more concrete.

In general, I want to meet as many people, see as many points of interest and stretch the trip out financially as much as I can, so I think I'm going to couchsurf as much as possible throughout my trip. I've read a lot of good things about it and it seems like it would be a really fun experience. I did the hostel thing last time, so now it's time for something else! Has anyone here ever couchsurfed before?

Not going to MoR either (but when thinking which of the interesting bands I can't see anywhere else this summer, there aren't enough left that would make me go there).

But that festival takes place at about the worst possible time for me anyway, so...

My summer plans so far are Sauna Open Air and Tuska and possibly some more festivals in Finland. And that's about it.

Sorry Drew, I think my bosses will have a say in that matter, since my co-workers (all with small children) want to take their holidays at that time.

Money would be no object and I´d love to see the Czech Republic again, but as mentioned above, it´s almost impossible for me to get some days off at that time.

That's a very good point. You'll be somewhere near Düsseldorf or Duisburg, right?

YEE-HAW MOTHERFUCKER!

And I find it kind of funny
I find it kind of sad
The dreams in which
I’m dying are the best I’ve ever had
I find it hard to tell you
I find it hard to take
When people run in circles
it’s a very very...

...Mad world

Yeah, I knew you were from Duisburg, but I think since you and Sandra drove together from Wacken '07 I assumed she was from the same area. You know what they say: when you make assumptions, you make an ass out of you and umptions. ;)

Haha, right!
It´s true that we drove together to Wacken, but I picked her up near Hanover. ;)
Nevertheless it would be great if we could meet each other again.

At this point it looks like I'll be going all over Germany, so let's plan on it!

Well...
What're you people doing this summer?
I'm expecting my baby. ;)

Hopefully I still get a chance to go to BYH, as BG play there. But I'll see. ;)

If there's a large cool forummeeting in the Ruhrgebiet or thereabout with Drew, I might as well considering going there too.
-- Martin Walkyier
