Id have to say the 1982 John Carpenter remake of The Thing is hands down my all time favorite horror film. The paranoid atmosphere and the insanity inspiring creature, to me, are so well done its amazing. So when I heard there was a prequel being written I was very excited. Obviously I had my doubts if this movie would be any good but I went into it without any expectations. We saw the prequel yesterday morning and Id have to say it was amazing. They couldn't have paid anymore tribute to John Carpenter if they tried. The only issue I had with the movie was the atmosphere, I didn't think they set the paranoid atmosphere up as well as the John Carpenter version, but it is there. All in all I left the theater with a huge smile on my face. All around a fantastic edition to The Thing story line.

I have a friend who eagerly awaits seeing this version, or prequel, call it what you will. I am sure he will be glad to hear that it stays in keeping with the Carpenter version. Shamefully, I haven't seen the old version yet, although I loved the PC game!

I forgot all about this flick for some reason, even though the original is definitely right up there with my favourite horror movies. Thanks for bringing it to my attention once more, I will search for a theater nearby and prepare for a pantscrapping evening :)

Will probably be bad or very bad. But probably better than Captain America(dear god this movie was really bad) or the new Conan.

well, you want a great movie? then i recommand 13 Assassins and/or Alatriste.

Come on, Captain America managed to be both cool and self-ironic. To be honest, I can hardly imagine anyone pulling off a better movie based on that that material. I mean, the guy is called Captain America and by the comic book is a self-sacrificing idiot with overblown 50ties morality. The only thing that really bothered me was that the Nazis talked to each other in German accented English.

Conan on the other hand was not even entertaining. What a piece of shite and horribly divergent from the source material. That guy ain't no Conan.

So, finally got to see the remake of The Thing. It was GREAT indeed, I really don't understand why the movie got so many bad reviews at all. It's prolly blasphemous to some fuckers, you know, the types who refuse to believe that anything worthwile happened after 1984.

Well, I saw the original! How many years after it was made? So, that means I won't watch this version until somewhere around the year 2037!

The Thing (2011) takes advantage of one of the greatest things movies can provide: a hot scientific chick armed with a flamethrower. With that on the screen, the movie can't be bad.

13 Assasssins, also mentioned above, was one of the best movies of 2011. And not only one of the 10 best movies, one of the top five, or three.

In the other hand, Alatriste, also mentioned in the same place, was a huge and stinky piece of crap. If you want a good spanish movie you should try, if you manage to find them out of Spain (*cough* *bittorrent* *cough*), look for No habrá paz para los malvados (the literal translation is "There will be no peace for the wicked") or Grupo 7. The spanish thriller is in great shape.

And finally, Conan the Barbarian, the one with Schwarzie, is one of my favourite movies ever. ¿Had anyone seen it with the director's and Arnie's comments? That was fucking hilarious.
