They could 100% nail any song from BoF/FTB live. They aren't really vocally demanding.

That said, play Follow the Blind, bards. :D

Allow me to re-assess (I want to type up a semi-comprehensive review, but this is probably my final stance on the album) Old score: The Ninth Wave: 8.5/10 Twilight of the Gods: 6.5/10 Prophecies: 10/10 At the Edge of Time: 8.5/10 Ashes of Eternity: 7/10 Distant Memories: 7/10 The Holy Grail: 10/10 T...

Re: Rating all that is beyond the red mirror

To be fair, the legend of the Holy Grail is interwoven with aspects of Christian lore. In the context of the album's concept I'm not sure what the significance of the Grail even is, but it seems to be more or less the one from Arthurian legend. The phrase "hallelujah" therefore isn't at all out of p...

Re: 'BEYOND THE RED MIRROR'- Your Reviews

I don't know, man. "Prophecies" and "Grand Parade" have some of the catchiest and biggest choruses of theirs in their history. Though Ashes of Eternity's is one of the weakest, comparatively, and Distant Memories' isn't what I'd call catchy or big. And At the Edge of Time's chorus is almost *too* bi...

Re: Setlist discussion for 2015

Hm.. The Throne would seem to be overall less vocally demanding than Sacred Mind, Grand Parade, and Holy Grail I guess. There are more opportunities for Hansi to blend in lower pitches of singing as allowed by the layering of the studio version. If Andre, Marcus, Mi, and Barend can belt out the chor...

Re: Thoughts about Mirror Mirror - input for podcast

I echo most of these sentiments, but one thing that's often irked me about Mirror Mirror (and it's really no fault of the song's) is that during live performances of the song, the layered guitars featured in the chorus are totally absent. A number of their songs suffer, or are at least slightly hind...

Everyone I know personally who's played d&d (nice qualifier, eh? around 15+ people) has anywhere from liked to adored BG. i would say it's nothing extra special, just one of Hansi's long screams which he often ends with an higher note (pressing his last breath trough before taking another one) He is singing a similiar scream in 3:23 -3:27 at Holy war (although all in all at iftos his voice is more low) I guess it stan...

Re: A black metal-ish scream during Grand Parade?

Alright, this was clearly a pressing issue, so I took the time to analyze the track in depth and came to the conclusion it's just Hansi hitting an extremely ghastly high note and it being blended with the note Andre's playing on the guitar, and the "black metal scream" is just the end of said high n...

Re: 'BEYOND THE RED MIRROR'- Your Reviews

There is something unmistakable and novel to the layering aesthetic of BG's vocals, and when he says there is an ABBA-esque quality to certain lines, it got me thinking. I've played BG around plenty of people who are strictly pop/alternative fans, people who have hated all other power/melodic metal ...

Things to consider.. First I've heard them mention playing "Ashes" live more than any of the remaining tracks, which is a shame if it turns out to be the 5th track mentioned. I'm on the verge of pulling my hair out over the lack of The Holy Grail. Have they somehow not considered how ballistic that song would be for the fans? It's a killer track, it really should be the "Tanelorn" of BTRM. (Live staple for most future sets.)

A black metal-ish scream during Grand Parade?

Listen closely during the "there is no return, it would be the end" section, specifically around 5:31-5:33, as the background Hansis finish carrying the note and the orchestration begins to cease. There's a sort of guttural howl occurring there for me, like one last voice carrying on the "eeeeeend"....
