In the Court of the Crimson King is a masterpiece of prog imo. I love Pink Floyd and Genesis as well (both the Gabriel and Collins era's). Then we have Uriah Heep, who are more of a hard rock/prog band but are amazing, especially the Byron years.

This. Erikson is a a master at what he does. The story is very complex and requires patience, but the rewards are well worth it. Just don't expect any quick resolutions.

Ayreon, I just think their concept is a lot better and the songs are far less repetitive than Avantasia, but the Metal Opera is great as well. Ayreon leans more toward prog metal/rock whereas Avantasia is power metal so in that regard it may be somewhat difficult to compare them.

The reason it seems that lots of people prefer there old stuff is because there are many who like straightforward stuff rather than progressive type music or that simply dislike multilayered vocals. Its therefore also logical that most people on this board will prefer there...

Sacred Worlds has always felt like it could've been a Hammerfall song or something, a bit simplistic when held against other BG songs. The orchestration is wonderful but it's fairly cut and dry other than that. I fully disagree, I think its one of the most complex songs BG did and the orchestration...
